Still waiting for the speedo to arrive so i can build the mount for it and finalize all the front end bit and peices. Started working on the wiring, I’m going to drastically shorten the stock harness so that it can all hide under the shelter with only the necessities running to the front end rather than a lot of it inside the headlight shell. Part of that task is relocating the choke and ignition, so i built a plate that will bolt to the stock horn bracket. Used flat steel plate and a bending brake to finish the edges. This is another part that will end up in the powder coat pile.

l ordered a more compact after market ignition so that there is room to clear the fan housing so when it shows up I’ll finish this. Also because my stock is so worn the key would fall out at this angle. This also meant shortening the choke cable about a foot so that the new routing would work.

Built a better mounting bracket for the rear cowl out of a piece of 2” aluminum. Slides over the shock mounts and sits flush along the entire underside. I’ll get it powdercoated and slip some thin rubber over it. Thinking I will secure it through the top right in front of the tail light with a brass carriage bolt or two.

Got my speedo and the new ignition in the mail today. Finished up the ignition plate (minus the wiring)

For the speedo I had to build a new bracket so that I could use the CBR ignition mount.

Got it bolted in place. Needs some adjustment and fine tuning still but it turned out alright

I can be pretty picky so I have to remember all these parts will end up being powder coated the same colour and things won’t jump out at me as much.

Finished the mount for the rear cowl. Instead of carriage bolts I decided to use the same black cap head screws I’ve been using everywhere else on the bike. I got some brass finish washers and used some stock CBR rubber fairing grommets.

It may seem like I’m flooding this thread, but I actually used this after the crash to show all the work that had been done to the bike and they took that into consideration when establishing the value. So I’m documenting EVERYTHING now haha

I don’t mind, great pics and nice work.

Nice work! I think a lower profile button head allen may be less prone to catching things though.

Completely agree! I had these ones on the bench already but I’m on the lookout for some black button socket head screws to use instead

Very nice work, and is there such a thing as too many pics? I'm curious what your estimated cost for the fork swap is, if you don't mind sharing...

Short answer: A straight fork, wheel and brake swap with this arrangement could probably be done for $1000 US if you shopped around to piece it together and used a CBR mag wheel. There’s cheaper and more available options, but I wanted to keep all Honda parts and as close to stock geometry as possible.

Long answer: I got the forks, triples and brakes as well as bearings, the cognito stem + new bushings, seals and stiffer fork springs for about $1200 CAD.

The front wheel and all the little extras have really added to the cost. If I had been willing to give up the spokes then no problem...but I went Cognito Hub, Buchanan spokes, new rim. Even that could have been done for less by lacing the stock hoops up (but I wanted wider). By the time I actually get the wheel mounted to the bike with new rubber I’m sitting around $1000 just for the wheel. Then of course I have to build a new rear wheel to match ;) ...plus all the little extras I went with (new head light, no speedo drive on the wheel so needed a new speedo, clip-ons, ignition relocation, etc etc). All told I’m putting about 3K into it including all the powder coating and fixing the paint.

I’m getting absolutely killed on the US exchange rate, shipping, and duties bringing stuff across the border, I hardly found any of this stuff in Canada. I’d wager 20% of my costs so far which is rediculous!

No matter about the cost, this was a fine looking bike in its first incarnation. Your attention to detail and eye for design, not to mention your skillful execution will, I'm sure, produce an even more beautiful Wing this time round.

These bikes are "our" expressions and this site is all the better for it. And I love this bike!

I try and plan carefully, this is the only bike I own at the moment and I don’t plan on ever parting with it so money is kind of irrelevant (Assuming my wife doesn’t read this).

I absolutely agree. Many, many people spend much more on 'cookie cutter' bikes, which is all good and fine, but it is such a pleasure to see the personal involvement members here dedicate to their rides. Keeps me coming back, and inspired!
