Very tasteful. How do the shorty mufflers sound? I put Emgo slash cut shortys on mine, and they were way too loud. I've both added fiberglass and added a washer about an inch from the end of the baffles. Good color combination.

The shorties are most definitely loud...not obnoxiously so at idle or slow speed, but they scream pretty good when accelerating. These are most likely not the final configuration for the pipes, but they will be on here for a few years anyway.

Re: *Accident Repairs / Fork Swap* 75 Wing Cafe RestoMod
Have put about 250kms on the bike so far and most things are working as they should, however, there are a few small issues that need some attention.
Firstly, both my brand new front fork seals are leaking! Not sure if it's an issue with the install by my local shop or if the All Balls seals are faulty. At any rate I am ordering a set of OEM seals and a driver and will be doing them myself.
Second issue I'm having is the front brakes seem to be dragging causing a slight 'shudder' in the front end. When I finished assembling everything the brakes were dragging and the front wheel didn't spin very freely. Some research on the RC51 forums showed this to be a common problem, but there is definitely something not right. It's possible the pistons aren't retracting fully (not sure how long they sat before I bought them) and the carbon metallic pads are grabbier than others. When I have the front end pulled apart to do the seals I'll work on fixing this. Probably order some caliper rebuild kits and new pads with the seals and make sure everything is lubed and installed correctly when I put it back together.
Still haven't figured out a front fender, but that's in the works as well.
Gotta say, this bike got attention before, but now it's getting hard to even park it anywhere without people stopping to chat. On the weekend I had someone come into the restaurant it was parked in front of to track me down and ask about it. Mostly people are confused as to what it actually is

I had an interesting question the other day:”What was it in its former life?”
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

That's a pretty good one!ericheath wrote:I had an interesting question the other day:”What was it in its former life?”
Finally found a front fender I think I can make work, will just have to fab up some mounts when it gets here sometime in August. It's a custom rolled aluminum unit, 5" wide and 15" long: I have also decided I may need to build a better headlight bracket. I built the current one out of relatively thin sheet metal and I think that is causing the light to bounce up and down over bumps. I may need to make one out of some thicker aluminum plate. I also ordered new front brake pads and picked up some OEM fork seals and dust covers to replace the leaky All-Balls ones. Will get around to changing those in the next week or so. Haven't been on it much lately, I've been having some back problems and coupled with the hot weather and busy summer season it just hasn't been conducive to riding. Still wander into the garage to look at it every now and again

That fender looks really nice. Should be just right for your bike. I have used several sets of the All-Balls seals (and bearings) and have never had any problems.

And a slightly worse for the wear BMW GS adventure bike awaiting repair

Re: *Accident Repairs / Fork Swap* 75 Wing Cafe RestoMod
All the other seals and bearings I've replaced have been all balls and I've had no issues at all. Seems suspect both the fork seals started leaking so quickly so I suspect the shop may have done something when they installed them. I have a set of OEM seals and dust boots on my bench along with some new fork oil and front brake pads. I am just waiting to build a fork spring compressor before I start tearing the forks down.Easter wrote:That fender looks really nice. Should be just right for your bike. Re: *Accident Repairs / Fork Swap* 75 Wing Cafe RestoMod
Put the new front pads in today and spent some time cleaning up the caliper pistons, making sure everything was properly lubed and working right. In my haste to put everything together the first time I really neglected to check over the brake system. Turns out the pistons were pretty gunked up and not all sliding smoothly. After mounting it all back up and seating the pads I took it for a rip and no more front end shudder or dragging front brakes! Live and learn, should have just done it right the first time.

Re: *Accident Repairs / Fork Swap* 75 Wing Cafe RestoMod
Front fender showed up yesterday! I think the proportions will work out good, just need to figure out the mounting now. I'm also not quite sure yet how I am going to finish it. Options are leave it bare aluminum to match all the switch gear and alloy accents, paint it gloss black to match the side covers and my previous front fender, or paint it red with gold pin stripping to match the rest of the body work. Once I have it mounted up I will decide. Unfortunately it has been way too hot this week to be working out in the garage. Has been close to 40 degrees C the last couple days and expected to go over 40 in the next couple (105f).

Re: *Accident Repairs / Fork Swap* 75 Wing Cafe RestoMod
my vote is colour match it to the body panels. It will tie the front end in with the rest of the bike and offset the black you have now.
I spent 5 hours attempting to install parking brake stuff on the wifes truck yesterday in that heat..
between that and working with a gimped up hand it wasn't fun..

Spent some time working on the fender mounts, coming along ok. I’m thinking I will paint the arms black and then figure out what to do about the fender color. Still need to build the back two brackets
