MotoNudo Build
This is the start of my 75 GL1000 build.
Currently have two bikes, first GL's I have had:
1) Barn find (seriously rolled it out of a barn) that has been sitting since 85. Mostly original except for color and air shocks (maybe more). I can't get the motor loose even thought the owner said it was running when it was put away. Tried all of the suggested remedies on it with no luck. I will get to it later. 2)"Parts" bike that I found on CL. Also a 75 seems to be mostly there with the exception of speedo, throttle, brake controls and shifter. The plan is to make a naked, low-slung, cafe-inspired, commuter out of the parts bike (MotoNudo). The engine turned over, even got it to start for a moment after rigging up the ignition circuit.
More to come.

Well, all I can say is, you've got one part really right: pics, we love pics. Both look like fun.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Go for it, I would have trouble with my conscience doing anything but restoring a 75, they are getting harder to find with ebay strip downs. Best thing for stuck motor is to use the front crank bolt and lubricants.

He is off to a good start. He will be using a very nice bolt kit on the front transmission cover.

Re: MotoNudo Build
Little Rock, AR. Go through Hope on my way to Dallas on business.
The silver bike may get a restoration. Plan on tinkering with MotoNudo and getting more familiar with the GW.
Current status:
Broke down the bike Engine out, got new belts but found a decent amount of rust in the pulley casing. Cleaned it up. Got me worried about the water pump, naught a new one, I was right to worry. Early compression test yielded in the 120's. Thinking about a valve lap, just fashioned a cheap leak tester. Suggestions on a top-end gasket kit? Saw RR's old post on top end rebuild and OF's edit to that on the rockers. That work would be a good new challenge for me.

Re: MotoNudo Build
As suspected, latkes on both valves. Hard to get a pic of the open valves but they look crusty. I have seen a lot of lapping posts an I assume a cleaning by itself won't cut it. Need to get a gasket/seal kit once I know a suggested place to get one.

Re: MotoNudo Build
Use OEM head gaskets. You can get the gaskets and orings you need from Honda.

Re: MotoNudo Build
I found a link to the gaskets and seals in NGW and priced them at honda online, added up to $250ish. Is that right?

Re: MotoNudo Build
I get most of my OEM stuff here. http://www.servicehondapsn.com/catalog.asp
Do some looking around. Others use I think western Honda.
What all did you price to get that figure?

Re: MotoNudo Build
This what I found on another thread, couldn't find the exhaust gasket:
Just in the middle of a head gasket replacement for a NGW newbie here in the Cleve. area.I thought I would help some out by listing the part#'s for all needed parts to do a complete head gasket job. I find it MUCH easier to give the part#s to your Honda dealer...Saves time for you as well as the counterperson, and saves trips to the dealer.
Qty Part# Desc.
2 12251-371-306 gasket,head
2 12328-371-000 gasket,cyl head cover
2 19429-371-306 gasket,water elbow
2 91308-371-003 o-ring,oil orifice(small)
2 91305-371-003 o-ring,oil orifice(large)
4 91301-MB6-003 o-ring,coolant tube
4 18291-386-306 gasket,exhaust
4 91301-371-005 o-ring,intake manifold
1 91256-096-651 seal,tach cable
1 12390-371-405 insulator,fuel pump housing
3 91209-371-003 seal,camshaft
8 12209-MB9-003 seal,valve guide
And timing belts, oil, and silicate-free coolant of your choice,as well as a thermostat if you so choose. The cam seals and valve guide seals are needed if you choose to lap your valves while the heads are off. If someone wants to throw these #'s onto Shoptalk, that would be cool as well.

Re: MotoNudo Build
If you to our crossover section you find part numbers for aftermarket parts. Belts, thermostat, cam seals, can all be gotten from an auto parts store. Gates belts are what most of use. You can both gates belts for less than one Honda belt. If you could find a Honda belt. I use georgefix on ebay for cam cover gaskets. I get valve seals from ebay too.Lads wrote:This what I found on another thread, couldn't find the exhaust gasket:
