Hoops.
I like the idea of a rear camera. Are you going to hide the screen?

If you do a camera, you will want to shelter the screen from sunlight as much as possible. I have one on Cyborg, and, after you get use to it, it is very helpful

Re: Full Carbon Fibre GL1000 Goldwing
Sounds good, any chance of a pic or some details? Looks like another good excuse for me to fab a Carbon fibre part. I am thinking i have so much room at the top yolk where the handlebars used to be, some sort of small bolted install around there will be both easy to see as it will be near the speedo/tacho and also fairly easy to conceal. The camera i will mount in or under the rear CF seat hump.CYBORG wrote:If you do a camera, you will want to shelter the screen from sunlight as much as possible. I have a CBX fairing on Cyborg and mounted the screen for the camera on the center line under the lip of the fairing overhang. The camera is mounted just above the license plate, under the tail light.

I mean, its amazing how cheap they are I think.
But then, reviews I've seen on Moto Vlogging sites suggest that it is supplement to, and should not be used as a replacement for mirrors. I am looking for something that is good enough to replace mirrors.
Cheap wired ones down under are like this
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Motorbike-Mo ... 1046362160
But maybe a better quality system from Blighty would be better, wireless like this.....

Will focus on engine first but replacing the stock mirrors is 3rd priority with bodywork finishing touches being 2nd in line

I like the look, very unique. I also appreciate embracing different technologies into a classic build. I am a big fan of your red chassis.CYBORG wrote:I have a CBX fairing on Cyborg and mounted the screen for the camera on the center line under the lip of the fairing overhang. I was after a CBX for my last build, but they are rare and expensive in my state down under. I was happy to stumble across the goldwing anyway, almost as unique as a straight-6 moto.

My system is designed for outside use, trucks, motorhomes, etc. The cost was about $600 US. The camera has a slight peripheral veiwing as well, which shows me whats behind, but also what is almost 90 degrees to each side. It doues adjust to light changes well during the day, but at night headlights coming up on you wash it out a bit. But you do see the headlights, so you know something is coming up

Just realised this means bike of month? that would be a massive honour but not sure i deserve it just yet. STill a fair few hours to go into it i think. Maybe it will never be 'finished' but i think i am now attached enough that i don't intend to sell it anytime soon, not at least until I have put a few 10's of 000's of kms on it.Kriss wrote: Vary nice (B.O.M!)

Excellent, is there a kit or supplier or was it a custom made job? this sounds more like the sort of thing I'm after.

I had a CBX for a couple of years, but was not impressed with the handling. Going any distance, I always took Cyborg. The CBX was nice Eye candy, but The Wing was my go to bike

Re: Full Carbon Fibre GL1000 Goldwing
I definitely need the camera, I think the mirrors on this sort of bike just look all wrong. I've ridden a little without mirrors but don't like the feeling of not having that rear view when in city limits.
Loosing the chunky mirrors will clean up the front of the bike somewhat, then its just some cabling to sort out to minimalise it a little.
Looking at the logistics of wet weather riding, i think i will also have to make a Carbon fibre front mud guard. It will be fairly minimalist but use the original fixing points I think. this will probaly have to happen before the mirror replacement.

Bar end mirrors are another option. I have them on Raptor, and they work very well. Small, low profile. I use oval ones that curve back on top of the hand grips, and they work great. But I do have clip on bars

Re: Full Carbon Fibre GL1000 Goldwing
I have some in the shed from a former project but I have Paulo Tarozzi adjustable clip ons on this GL and with the comfy height i have them set at the bar and mirrors don't sit too well with my riding position. In addition as this is primarily a commuter bike then I want to keep it narrow for filtering through heavy traffic, an extra couple of inches on the clip ons is therefore not desirable.

Re: Full Carbon Fibre GL1000 Goldwing
Its been a while since the last update on this build due to life getting in the way a bit. Due to other commitments (racing and the birth of my first son) the bike has sat idle for most of the last 6 weeks and not been ridden at all. I have however spent several hours finishing the rear seat hump assembly and flanks. After 1 last top coat of pre-preg CF and a proper gel coat layer I got into final polishing. All of this work as before has been done by hand as I have no power tools or workshop facility.
I also spent some time fettling and polishing the gel coat on the sides of the hump
by contrast the underside of the arrangement has no glossy finish and has been left raw matt. it is well waterproof and i have a neat 'secret' compartment to hide valuables in this rear hump when the seat is unbolted.
