Purchase from a CL ad, in poor running condition. Carburetors, stator issues,…

That is not a recognized way to bypass the stator plug. (Cut, Clean and solder) works if the stator is good. Other wise the engine would have to come out to replace the stator. Or you could go to a Poor Boy alternator. With some effort Both are good solutions.. Not a bad looking bike for the age. Paint on Mine is more faded than yours.

Gotta love wire nuts on a 12 volt system. :IDTS:

Just another P.O. deal. Hope you can get it done right. I have seen worse, unfortunately.

See my other post. I have a set of 1200 carbs if you want to get it running. They're from an 85 I think.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Ericheath,
Thanks for your kind offer, as you can see I’ll give it a try with thorough clean first.

You've got an excellent start on it. (New belts yet?)

What's your plan?

Nice work on the carbs and sync. so important to the proper running of the bike. Have you plans for the trunk and bags. My 84 is a good solid bike but the sun has destroyed the paint and faded it till the silver shows through. I know shipping is a bummer for large stuff. Might you have a price in mind if you are selling?
