Make it from 12 gauge steel or better. A hard bump could still push a thin plate up hard enough for carnage on the case. One look at the many thousands of bashed header tubes on lowered bikes will convince you.

I'm only down two inches on my "78 but am still very careful.

Been riding, love it on the interstate. One little issue I have is the foot controls. The foot rest is the right spot but it's the actual levers they are too high and need to be moved back. Any suggestions? Cut and weld, any one have experience or know of a similar build thread?

You might try foot boards, though I myself dislike them. They would give you the option of scooting your foot forward. Lengthening the lever doesn't seem wise as the shift range would be altered also. Maybe cowboy boots?

Let me clarify a bit, when I say foot rest I mean is the original location of the pegs. With bar location being lower and seat up a bit the controls, shift and break lever are in an awkward spot, not as comfortable as the should be. I have to bring my the front part of my foot up to high. Like on a sport bike they clocked down and back not level with the ground like they are on the Goldwing. Any ideas?

Brake pedal can be adjusted with the rear link. Gear shift could be moved down one cog on the splines. Just make sure it can move enough to get all gears engaged.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Thanks for the help. Was able to drop the brake pedal down enough, shifter is running into some issues with the exhaust pipes. We will see how it feels out in the road.

You may have to bend the shift lever's curvature a bit.

Working on things that bother me about my bike, I'm OCD, can't shake them.

1. Side cover for battery, needs to be flush. Any ideas on a smaller battery so I can make the cover flush with the frame? I looked at LIon batteries not sure if I want to go that route.
2. Seat needs more shape, looks like a giant rolley polley(pill bug). Solution, recover, with side panels and cut about an inch of foam off the top.
3. Not feeling the gauge mount. Maybe painting the housing will help. I hate that gold stripe around it.
4. New rear tire, more for fear of death with warn down center. You can feel it roll over while turning, not so comforting.

Ideas and direction welcomed, for anything really.

I put a 14 amp hour battery in mine last year. Seems fine without lots of lights. Yours is pretty trim.

Do you have a link for that battery?
