I now have the intake manifold fabricated. This is starting to be fun!

Using the book Turbo Charging and Supercharging by Alan Allard, I calculated the size of the plenum I should have for the gl1100 engine and the Aisen AMR 500 supercharger. I had way over estimated the size I would need in a previous mock up. I took a look at a single carb manifold made by Bill Gratzl (bgratzl@comcast.net) and found that the plenum was within 10% of the recommended size for such. Bill agreed to make up a manifold with a 1/4" 6x6 steel mounting plate. I would do the trimming and holes once the manifold arrived.

I was pretty happy with the manifold he sent. The welds are perfect and the finish excellent (a great base for some powder coating).

Here is the custom manifold as he sent it:

I had to trim the plate down and drill the mounting holes, so I made a gasket using the ball peen method:

And then traced the gasket onto the manifold after carefully making sure the supercharger would sit perfectly in line with the Gl1000 main shaft:

Next I cut the excess off with an angle grinder, and drilled the mounting holes with the drill press:

I heated some polished intakes and mounted them on the intake runners and then set the entire assembly on the engine. Everything came out perfect. I am waiting for some clamps from Aircraft Spruce, as well as a blow off valve (25 PSI) and a pressure gauge.

Next up will be fabricating the arbor, pulley and idler for the system. After that, I will be installing the hydraulic 1200 clutch and placing the engine in the frame. This will allow me to design the carburetor manifold.

Sturgis?? I see an empty frame in the background. Is it going to fit without mods to the frame? Did you do anything to the bottom end, I'm thinking of posts about pinning bearings?? Looks very promising.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

I'll modify the frame as needed. This bike would only be at sturgis if it is driven in a tool hauler to a bike show.. lol. I doubt it will ever get more than 10 miles from home. In my previous posts I discuss lowering the compression ratio and using heavy duty springs. I did not pin the bearings as I am only running it at 7 psi and don't intend to race it. My goal is to figure this aisen SC out as a cheaper alternative to the other massive roots blowers out there. If it runs when I am done, I be very happy happy.

Thanks for all the info! Are you planning on putting a nose extension on the blower to get the belt to line up, or is the picture just an optical illusion?

Richard .I believe You are going to have a reversion problem. Blowing wet fuel into that small hole with all that other closed up area around it is going to cause a massive reversion . Hope You don't have a backfire or it could be like a grenade between your legs. 25 psi bov doesn't make sense. A draw through wet fuel systym like yours is going to require something to restrict incoming air at boost or a pully ratio to keep things together but either way you don't want a bunch of fuel with no where to go . A big SU carb will probably handle the fuel. My 2 cents .........jb

I really like your premise so far.
But I agree with jb.
You need a better transition from the square bore of the blower to the round opening of the intake.
Think square top to round bottom funnel (adaptor).
You do not want gas puddling or reversing direction and not entering the intake plenum.

Good advice guys. Thinking of modifying the riser to remove the step. I must point out that the inside of the sc also is a flat shelf, not sure this current configuration changes much. But to be on the safe side... The 25 psi pov is to allow the pressure to blow off in case of a back fire. What are you suggesting here Jb?

The inside is a flat shelf but it is designed to bolt to something that most likely is not. And most assuredly has the same size and shape opening as the bottom of the sc.
The fuel will mix with the air when it goes through the carb. It will be pressurized in the sc but any obstruction to flow could possibly make the gas come out of suspension an pool on the obstruction thus causing the problems jb mentions.

Appreciate the input. I'll figure a better riser. I think i will replace the round rise with a square one that matches the size of the plenum, and then attach a mounting plate that matches the SC..
