GL 1100 Cut, weld, wrench then ride

#1

Post by AstroWing »

As I was finishing my most recent build, a 1974 Honda Elsinore themed CB 750, I began thinking about my next build. Went to Mid-Ohio and saw a white 'Wing with 1959 Cadillac taillights. In my mind, I began to dream up variations. A few months later, I found an '81 GL on Craig's List for a few hundred bucks. I brought it home and stored it until I finished the 750. Well last weekend I declared the "1976 CR 750, Nelsonore" Finished. I rolled the Wing into my garage and grabbed my Sawzall. Please follow along and offer any suggestions and ideas as I document this project. This is my first Wing and you folks have years of experience.

I came up with a theme: AstroWing. I plan to follow the lines of a Bultaco Astro.

Bike has over 50,000 miles, seems pretty solid. I took the carbs off and cleaned them out. I hope I don't offend anyone, but I do not like these carbs. Got a battery and fired it up. Ran on 2 cylinders but engine seems ok no knocking or smoke. We'll know more about the engine later.

It's a 1941 Ford a 15 year project. Pretty neat that the "Bike of the year got me started on the Good Wing path... Before it was the bike of the year"

Here is my inspiration for the Nelsonore and the Nelsonore.

Love the Ford, would kill for a Bultaco as in your picture, but knobblies on a cafe racer? You got me there!
