This is a fantastic project! Very curious to see how the custom built throttle bodies work with the microsquirt!

Have we any updates on this project? I know this is an old thread, but we are all wanting to see this bike as you have envisioned it. I just found the thread a couple days ago, so I wasn't tortured for several years while it all came together. I'm sure this project has inspired most of us and certainly gotten many to think about taking their project to the next level. Thank you for all your great posts and pics. Very entertaining, and as I said before, inspiring.

Hello,

The bike is sitting in my garage on the lift. I really miss working on it. Thank you for reading my posts. I am still very busy with my team manger job at the IMSA team, Action Express Racing. AXRacing.com (3 National Prototype championships the last 3 years) My AMA consulting and bike building project has been quite humbling. We only made 1 Main event all year. For 2017, we are taking on a second rider, Jarod Vanderkoi to join our current rider, Shayna Texter.. so more flat track bikes to build this winter. Maybe, I can find time to finish this GoldWing project but I don't expect it to be in the next few months. I will certainly post any progress I make on the bike when I do get a little time.
Thanks to all my fowlowers that are so patiently waiting.

Hello,
Merry Christmas everyone. I finally got a day off, at home. I plan to go out in my garage later and look at my NGW project. Maybe, I'll get some work done, maybe not. We'll see.

I don't know if I mentioned this earlier. I did 1500 miles in less than 36 hours earlier this year on one of my other bikes. Iron Butt, Bun Burner. Charlotte - Oklahoma City - Springfield Ill. Great way to get to the Springfield AMA Flat Track race.

Well, I am working on AstroWing today. Might take me awhile to remember where I left off.

I finished the last of the fuel lines today (I didn't like the routing of the return line)
Clearanced part of the tank was touching the frame.

My to do list:

Wire complete MegaSqirt (figure out routing for minimum visibility)
Make plug wires
Wire rest of the bike (fuses, relays need to be mounted)
Get a muffler plan, build it
Trim parts of the frame Around rear shock mounts, add gussets
Buy/install oil filter adapter
Measure and order clutch cable
Measure and order longer throttle cables
Make seat cushion
Get bike running, Dyno to build engine management maps, test ride
Take bike completely apart, grind, rough areas
Powder coat frame (decide black or silver)
Soda blast engine and paint opposite of frame color
Paint tank/seat (Bultaco Astro design)

Things I'm thinking of changing:
Front brake discs and calipers (bigger more modern)
Foot pegs
Gear shift lever
Remove stock charging system, see if I can make new flatter rear cover for where stator was
Forks (shorter more modern design but keep current wheels converted to floating disc/caliper)

All suggestions and comments are welcome!

Anyone remember the days of 1 red wire and 1 black wire to make an engine run?

Wiring would be a lot easier if we could just go from point to point. Since we have to take things apart from time to time, we need connectors. Today, I ran the main wire from the battery at the back of the bike to a junction under the front of the tank. Then I connected the key and kill switches to that junction. I use Weatherpack connectors. The key switch goes to 3 relays.. Fuel Pump, radiator fan and the rest of the bike.

AstroWing wrote:The computer needs to know the temperature of the air going into the engine. I have thought about how to do this for awhile. I came up with a way to put the sensor inside the air filter and keep it hidden. It would have been much easier to just drill into the metal top, but it would bug me every time I saw it. The brass sensor had a pipe thread on it, I was able to re-thread it 5/8 x 18 for a jam nut. I made a bracket with a nut sert because I would not be able to get a wrench inside.
awesome build you got going on here. Mad fabrication skills too! I’ll be watching for sure and hope you can complete it soon.

Quick question, what air filters are those? It looks like their spacing is an exact fit for the gl heads’ port spacing? Do they have a rounded lip on the rubber inside like a velocity stack/venturi?
