Chirco.com $53; Search "end castings & manifolds". Goldwingdocs covers modifing this manifold for those who want to heat it for cold weather applications. The stainless braid is from cabletiesandmore.com $25 for 2ft. Sometimes you can find this manifold and carb setup on ebay.anim-cheers1

Very nice and very interesting - especially to me since the PO of the '78 I just bought made a shambles of the original carbs. What's holding up that carb? A bracket from up above?

Update: A 1000 miles without a hickup! No swelling or saging of hoses and all plugs are a nice brown. Had her up to 100 mph with no spits or sputters smooth the whole way 3 times.
One side note if you have my alternator rig in place you will have to remove electric choke and rig a manual one.

The bike looks very good! What's the colour?

I must have missed something....what's this about an auto alternator? Is it on the bike in these pix? Could you show it better?

The colour is cherry red. Hal if you look in shop talk under stator replacement with a $40 GM alternator you'll see better pics

Update: Well a total of 1500 miles and still no hickups with the carb rig. Did have to replace start switch with radio shack rig and it works great. However I was wondering what to do with the wire for the headlight /disconnect? I eliminated this wire and headlight still works fine just installed an on/off switch for headlight ground for start purposes. Do I need that fused blk/rd wire or was that just for the reserve lighting unit?

Hello jake,

I saw this thread and was reading through it. I want to do a carb conversion like this but needed more info on it. Do you have a full write up on this somewhere? Or more pictures of the manifold setup? I was looking for type 3 manifolds but noticed they all have bolt flanges at both ends but yours has open ends where you have attached tubing. How was that achieved? I would really like to see a detailed thread of this install. I really like its simplicity.

THanks for the help,

Jachana

If you ever have problems with the epdm hoses, there are silicon tubes made for blower applications that may fit the bill. And come in bizarre colors, too.

You could have the starter button operate a single pole, double throw (spdt) switch. Wire the power to the common contact,
wire the headlight to the normally closed contact,
and wire the starter sillinoid to the normally open contact.
Wire the switched power from the button to one side of the relay's coil,
and the other side of the coil to ground.
That way, when the button is not pressed the head light has power. But, when you press it, it shuts off the headlight and powers the starter; which is the way it works from the factory.

I did that and it works great.

Beautiful bike! I love the ingenuity of your mods!
Mike
