Re: duke182's -"worlds slowest build thread"
Get yourself back to good health first. Your title was more prophetic than you knew at the time. The few folks I've known closely who've had heart attacks were surprised at how much it took out of them. Lots of sleep in your future.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Eric
Dont worry, I have no illussions of a rally and quick finish.
I realize my recovery will be an extended adventure.
I'll be happy if im able to start by sitting in a chair jotting notes and doodling ideas.
And you're right, everything takes more energy than you think, and yes I do sleep a lot.

Re: duke182's -"worlds slowest build thread"
Prayers sent for a speedy recovery, but listen to all the medical advice and don't rush back. Hope all goes well for you, you seem to have had a really tough time recently.
Previous Rides,
1980 CB250N Good to learn on
1981 CX500 good mid range tourer, went to Austria on it!
1983 GL1100C Pride and joy, sold when I bought my 1st house, big mistake
1985 GL650 Silverwing another mistake, horrible bike
1986 CBX550 Good commuter
1989 Suzuki GS750 (1976) cheap and cheerful until a dog ran out in front of me on Xmas Eve, 1991
Current bikes
2010 CB1300 back on a bike after 19 years, two divorces, children grown up etc
1980 GL1100 NOW ON THE ROAD, still use CB1300.

Thanks chewy
Maybe I made things sound more dire than I intended.
Except for the heart attack. That was a little scary.

Boy Duke, you have had a tough time!
I missed your last few posts, but glad to hear you are working through things, you have a fighting spirit and positive outlook, which are the most important things.
I think this forum can be great therapy for you during your recovery.
Good luck with everything my friend, keep us posted.

Norbert
I have said many times that my mechanical projects served as a sort of therapy.
I always saw it as a way to seperate and decompress from day to day stresses.
It looks now like they may, in the long run, become therapy in a physical as well as mental fashion.
The club forum has already served a theraputic function
It has allowed me to do something other than stare at the tv.
I am affraid though, that when I do get back to a normal schedule, I may have to deal with NGW withdrawls.

Re: duke182's -"worlds slowest build thread"
Get well soon.
And.... doctors advice is still advice If you feel up to it, do it - but carefully.
Take your time, plan breaks and spread your activities.
Thats the advice I can give you
In my case:
The doctor subscribed me huge amount of NSAID's and of 3 months bed rest for a different condition. (acute sarcoidoses - the full package - diagnosed jul12) I managed for 1 week. I felt useless ; talked to my chief and HR: i could work half time and mostly paperwork on a therapeutic base. (Normaly im a maintenance technician)
Back then... getting back to work felt good, it gave me a sense of value.
During that period i was slowly starting to work more hours and getting back to my own function.
That reinstated my confidence in my body (very important )
Even now... As long as i listen to my body, i don't need any meds.
"The mind needs something to tinker with, the body will follow "
Just my 2cts
Hope you find your way to cope.

I completely understand what you are saying.
I usually push through whatever ails me.
This time im just taking it as it comes.
Its not my normal way but sometimes you have to do things different.
And I am but the boredom is tough.

Re: duke182's -"worlds slowest build thread"
I thought I would add an update to the thread.
The health issues are much better.
I went back to work at both jobs and havent had much time to do anything else.
What I have managed to do is buy a few things.
Bought some brake pads, some filters to have on hand if I ever get to the point of flushing the motor and a few other odds and ends.
Ive sprayed liberal amounts of penatrating oil in hopes of not breaking bolts or stripping threads when real work resumes.
And I relocated a set of rear struts that prompted me to go to the hardware store and spend too much money on drill bits and cutting oil.
The mounting holes on the struts will have to be enlarged slightly if they are used.
Heres are the struts. If used they will lower the bike considerably.
Until the next time I post another nonprogress report, ride safe.

Re: duke182's -"worlds slowest build thread"
Not the way I would like.
I have felt better and have been working a lot because of it. That in turn has allowed me to earmark a little money for the project.
Hopefully that will turn into purchases that lead to productivity and then maybe I can offer up some real progress reports.
Btw, thank you all for the votes in the color poll.
Its neck and neck right now.

Re: duke182's -"worlds slowest build thread"
Actually read through all of your build. Seems like you've had a lot of dire situations occur while trying to get steam going on the build.
Almost feels like how my CB900F has been going. Started it nearly five years ago and it's still in pieces all over my garage after a lot of things popping up in life. Fortunately getting the GL1100 has reinvigorated my efforts on it and a new opportunity at work may generate the required funds. My goal is to have it road ready by spring 2017.
I hope your project gains the same vigor mine has.

Bigscheaf,
Thanks for reading through and for the encouragement.
Sounds like you have a new found enthusiasm. I hope it grows and carries you through to completion.
Things havent qiute gone the way I planned but thats ok. I will get there sooner or later.
Do you have a build thread? I would like to see what you've got going.
