Re: duke182's project oldwing gets back under way
here are a few i hope to use.
- the factory fork brace. it might have to be modified slightly to fit the 19" rim and tire i want to use.
-the dip stick is a piece that i found in an all mc wrecking yard here in arkansas
-the pegs i made from the oem crash bars and a set of old sporster pegs

Re: duke182's project oldwing gets back under way
i like the basic lines of the factory shelter, so i think it will be utilized. here is what i have done to the shelter so far and what i want to do.
- trim holes and lock hole removed and smoothed
-craftsman work belt to hold the doors shut(previously used a wally world special)
more to do:
-i want to figure a better way to attach the belt
-i want to make some "loops" to hold the belt in place better
- i willl propably do some trimming on the shelter
-i intend to mold it together into a solid shell around the doors
-plan to build a custom dash for various component
-i will dye the belt to match what ever i use to cover my seat.

Re: duke182's project oldwing gets back under way
i also like the look of the stock rear fender but i dont like the factory rear lighting.
after removing all the factory rear lighting there was an awful hole and bump on the lower part of the fender.
since i like the bobbed fender look i cut the bottom of the fender off.
well as it turns out, that looked like crap!
so after studying things for a while i found the solution.
i cut a four inch section off of the bottom section i had already removed.
this got rid of the ugly.
then i took that piece an split it so i could line up the factory lip then i welded it up making sure to fill all holes and gaps to ensure a smooth finished product.
my friend O.P. allowed himself to be drafted to help with the filler and sanding.(i'll blackmail mim with that pic when i find it. i caught him working. ha!ha!)
it still needs a little work but it really cleans up the tail end.
here's what ive got so far with four inches of length taken out.
the small piece of metal in the pics is part of what was taken out.

more fender:
-the underside view, i retained the wiring tabs in case i decide to mount a light on the fender itself someday
and then i undercoated it to help keep rocks from starring the paint once it hits the road.
-the other pic is to show how it fits around the tire once its mounted. i'll get a better pic later

Re: duke182's project oldwing gets back under way
and a little about the seat.
sorry about the blurrry 1st pic
decided to go with my original thought and build my own.
what you see below is just a rough start but it has been good enough for a couple thousand miles so far.
after i put it on i thought i might need some coushion so i cut up a nighthawk seat to get it. i didnt like it so i ditched it.
it not bad riding on the bare metal but i think i will eventually improve the shape of the seat and add some padding and covering of some kind.

Re: duke182's project oldwing gets back under way
i previously had this tool bag hanging under the head light.
i think i am going to use this one as a pattern and make or have one made
to match the belt and seat. i dont want to use black. i hope to never have
to use the tools again after im finished, but i know better. ha!ha!
i also want to use a leather battery bag to match but more on that later.
again, sorry about the blur.

Nice job on the fender! The belt idea is interesting! There was a pic posted somewhere here of a Harley with a tooled leather "saddle" styled seat, complete with gunbelt, holster, and ammo... I'm waiting a bit to pick a color combo to see where this is headed...

Re: duke182's project oldwing gets back under way
the computer came back again. maybe its really fixed this time.
tarheel,
i havent gotten that fender pic yet but i will.
i do have some more pics to share.
i know it probably doesnt look like progress, but it feels like progress so im gonna share it.
hope it doesnt bore ya'll too much.
i said i wasnt gonna run a front fender, but thats really up in the air at the moment.
i have trimmed it to the size i want if i do use it.
earlier i showed the some of the material i removed.
here is the fender itself.
i shortened the front, trimmed the sidesin the front and rear and trimmed the rear to shorten it and eleminate the tire budges on the sides.
