Great job on the build. I have a couples of pictures from your build in the slide show that's my wallpaper. I love the look of the front end kicked out, I just want to know how it drives compared to stock?

Re: Meet Ol' Sparky
Thank you, muchly appreciated.
Stock zips through the turns at speed with ease.
Stock cruises the open highway in quiet comfort.
Stock has plenty of gizmos to keep you informed of vehicle performance.
Ol' Sparky lolligags it's way around anything tight (especially driveways).
'Sparky rolls the long road straight as an arrow (with or without hands), and the custom exhaust warns off cagers 3 lanes away.
'Sparky has a tach & neut.light!
She rides with character and attitude. Can do the Ton, but looks at home
cruising Bars,Grilles & Luncheonettes.
The front end has a light, power steering like feel. Still the ride is very secure and connected.
You probably won't see me doin' the Dragon, but I did an 80mi. today north of Houston.
What a blast...

Love the build!
Just out of curiosity, if you were to make that so you could hold a passenger, how would you do it? The seat really makes the look of the bike. A sidecar would be kindof cool!

Just wanted to say that I love your build. So much that I used a couple of your ideas already. Thank you for the inspiration and get all healed up so you can ride her again. If you get a chance swing by and see what I have started.

Well I guess a pillion on the rear fender would be 'era' correct, but would ride awful.
I think a well designed sidecar would be the way to do a take along. (I actually took some ideas from a
ruddy bobbed 1500 that was posted a while back with a sidecar)
Thank You. I'm putting in more and more miles. I'm ready for an NGW run.Thank you for the inspiration and get all healed up so you can ride her again. If you get a chance swing by and see what I have started.
Keep posting photos I'm following the Copperhead.

Re: Meet Ol' Sparky
I also just read through this entire thread. Didn't know about it until Saturday when I got to see the bobber in person as Rick was in Oklahoma City for a meet here. I have to say that if you haven't seen it in person you can't imagine the quality of the work and the thought that went into this bike. It is simply "AWESOME". It will be an attention getter anywhere it is shown. Even with the "other" crowd. I said it before but I'll say it again. Well done, Rick.

as for a sidecar.... a motorvation spyder would be the look
(and you could throw in some extra gas in the sidecar )

Re: Meet Ol' Sparky
Spunky old 'Wing- I really like it! -wanted to ask you a quick question though. I live in Bonham, TX and I'm having a ---- of a time getting a title/registration together for my old '76 I built. I especially am curious about the old school black license plate you have on there- is that a 'classic' or 'antique' special plate.
The people at the title office here want for me to get a 'bonded title' - even though I've done all the stuff the website says to do to get a rebuilderts title (tracings of numbers, bills of sale for motor and frame...)
Any direction if you can find the time to advise I'd sure appreciate any help you might can offer.
Again, killer job!
Thanks in advance,
Axe_Ace

Re: Meet Ol' Sparky
Awesome bike/job/build/dream...... I really like the pipe music. Is that all from your pipes or were there some other contributing factors. I'm thinking I might do this with my GL1100 (among many other ideas on this site!).

Re: Meet Ol' Sparky
Thanks. Me too.I really like the pipe music.
No other enhancements (audio wise)
What you hear is straight over an iPhone.
I think the intake is a contributing factor, to a point.
Build wise on the exhaust, it is as written.
I road it out in Deadwood and had no complaints from other
members. Although that may have been why they left me at the lunch
stop on Wednesday...?
More video to come

Re: Meet Ol' Sparky
Im curious how you finished out the upper radiator crossbar, when raking it out it came forward. Im raking my 76 1000 right now and was looking for ideas on how to finish this area.

Hmmm.. kinda skipped over that didn't I.lghtspeed wrote:Im curious how you finished out the upper radiator crossbar?
I took a few 2 1/2" sections of scrap tubing (from rear removal).
Cut to fit. You see it makes an angle. From there I use my cut-off wheel under the rad mounting tab.
Just about 3/4's of the way through. Then bend tab to proper angle and tack.
This is a steel to steel weld so you are safe not to hurt any thing. Just do it quick and
quench right away.
The tubing is thick enough to tap for a bolt. Remember to reuse rubber washers
and a little blue Locktite. Thanks!
