POR-15 tumb2
way too much fuss is made about the pickup screens and pipes getting plugged with the sealer.
Take a look at my tank sealing results.

Thus far, both of the tanks I've bought on eBay had one or both of the fuel screens damaged, rendering them unusable. Apparently they were damaged when someone tried the "rust removal trick" of nuts/washers to rattle around within.

I've only seen a single tank on eBay which had both strainer screens intact; missed it by hours!

The best tank I've got right now is the one my cousin performed the electrolysis on.... it cleaned up nicely but leaks. I may well give it the POR 15 treatment whilst blowing out the lines/strainers. Next trip to Ken Gray's, I'll inspect the collection of Pete and see if they have one with both intact screens.

Thanks folks for the feedback. I might well join the Southern VA NGW meet next fall.

Don't let the missing screens deter you from using a fuel tank, DET .
Their only purpose I can suggest is from à personal experience in another fluid supply reservoir situation is to prevent foreign solid material from being drawn into a supply line and cavitating a hydraulic system.
With no further hesitation Seal one of those de-rusted fuel tanks- without screens -and be done with that part of your project.
The POR-15 paint gives you plenty of time to slowly roll the tank around to coat its interior, dump out the excess sealer through the filler neck and blow whatever small amount that may have entered an exposed pickup line or covered a screen out of the picture with a quick burst of compressed air, inwards from the petcock mounting pad.

I only referred to the sealing of my fuel tank as "an ordeal", because I used swimming pool muriatic acid to remove its internal rust scales .

Being a retired Engineering Manager, with just a bit of anal retentive engineer left in me, I would prefer to have those screens. HONDA saw fit to design them into the tank, and as you say their function is keeping debris out of the lines and selector valve. However if all tanks I inspect appear to have this same condition (45 years +) then I'll use the electrolysis cleaned one which only has 1 screen. Not arguing, just personal preference / anal OCD!

I also have considered running the muriatic acid thru the best one. Two weeks of white vinegar ate the rust out of tank #2 resulting in a nice vinegar spill in my workshop.

Believe me, I've got MUCH TO DO before this old 76 LTD is ready for service. I need to get started on that restoration thread.......

Thanks folks for all the feedback! I see the NGW forum group are active listeners.

I replaced the eaten-up reserve screen on the Hunley with a pickup filter for a VW. Took a bit of fiddling with hemostats, but last I looked it was still in place.
