Old Member selling my small GW collection

#1

Post by willwilly »

Good day! My name is William in Lexington KY. I have been a member since 2012, sharing some of my projects on my two 82 GW. I haven't been on the sight for some time. With work and recent Covid fiasco, I haven't had time to keep riding and find I am ready to move on from my old gold wings and update to something a bit more modern in my senior years.

I'm working on updating my profile, change from an outdated email...

I will be posting my two bikes, trailer and a bunch of new and used parts in the For Sale forum for a very reasonable price for that special someone that wants to do something with my wares.

Thanks NGW for being here and all the great advise I have gotten over the years.

William

William, you live in one of my favorite cities! We too faced the consideration of touring (which we love) and advancing years/ more delicate bodies/ decreased muscle tone. Last year, we sold the '06 GL1800 and bought a brand new Spyder RTL! I find the Spyder is actually more nimble in tight maneuvering like Uturns in city areas, but not as much fun on country twisty roads (we are 45 minutes from "the Dragon"). Good luck on your sale, eat some snappy beer cheese at Halls, and GBB!

I totally agree. Though I have had a great time fiddling with the GL1100, a great bike to learn on but it really does not serve it's purpose anymore. I am a big guy and both me and my wife on the gl1100 really pushes the edge of safety margins. I have fallen off a motorcycle only a couple times when I was much younger and know I will not be able to walk it off next time. It is time to get into this decade at least with a new bike.

Thanks

Interesting you mention Halls on the River. One of my falls was on a Honda CBX 1000, the corner at the top of the hill. A horrible bike, too much power, too little tire and brakes, and maneuverability of a school bus at best. I took that same corner maybe 5 times that evening during Thursday night ride. The last time, one small miscalculation on the throttle and I ended up pogo sticking the bike, ending up in the guard rail. I was able to ride home with my pride somewhere in my groin. Not a fun experience.

The GL1100 is not much better but it is a great county road bike.

Thanks again
