Hello
I'm new to the site and excited to spend some time learning. I have a 1986 GL1200. The bike has set for several years. I got it running but didn't ride it much and let it set for a few months. Now it has some other issues to fix.
I'm considering stripping it down but don't want to make matters worse. Thanks in advance for helping me work through this project.

Re: Hello
welcome to NGW. 1200's are great bikes, but they do not like the carbs to sit with gas for a long time. Stripping it down is easy if it is an interstate.... not so easy if it is an aspencade

Re: Hello
welcome Brian, this is a forum of real experts, I only attend, I don't know anything about it, but my partner has a GL 1200 with over 360,000 km and in addition to the normal services, he has never had any problems.

Re: Hello
hello rcmatt007, can you explain to me the difference of the carburettors between Interstate and Aspencade? because you wrote that those of Intersate are easy to control, while those of Aspencade are difficult, and I'm curious to know
thank you in advance

Re: Hello
I do not think I said that. The carbs are the same between interstate and aspencade. The fuel injected model is totally different
What is different between interstate and appendage are the electronics

Re: Hello
And stripping down harder on the Aspencade due to the added "stuff" you have to get by. Welcome Brian! Let me suggest that you get it running as designed before any modifications, if that is what you mean by "stripping it down".

Re: Hello
rcmat007 I beg your pardon, but perhaps also because of the translator I understood that you meant the disassembly of the carburetors and not of the motorcycle.
forgive me!

Re: Hello
no offense taken. Actually, rebuilding 1200 carbs is rather simple.
