Making a 1200 Aspencade, naked

#1

Post by Dr. Peter »

Hello from Australia
Been on a bit of a journey, building a bike fleet to try and determine what type of bikes I want to ride. There's been trials, trail, sport bike and full-dress tourer (a 1200 GW). I have found I like trail biking and long-distance riding.

So, I have a 1986 1200 Aspencade and I have really enjoyed this bike. The engine and transmission are sweet. The panniers and top-box are fine and the outer skin of the fairing is fine too. What is severely UV damaged is the inner fairing; it's crumbling and so far I have removed the lower fairing (too hot where I ride for that anyway), and covered up problems on the left side (Corflute and black 100mph tape and I can't see the disaster underneath) but it's all a bit temporary.

I think that I am putting off the inevitable, the fairing will need to come off and this fact leads me here, to your forum.

Welcome,

Looks like you have a plan, Shoptalk can help if you get stuck, or just yell.
