Hello NGW World

Post by toomanybikes »

Hello NGW'ers,

Had an account for a while, but hadn't used it. Picked up my 4th vintage 'wing yesterday, so felt it time to start posting. 1981 with 19k miles. Looks to have been kept inside most of it's life. Will need the usual vintage bike updates, plus the fuel pump apparently leaks.

Admittedly, this is not a true naked, but it's not a full dresser either. I'll probably keep the Vetter for cold weather protection. Hope that's OK with this crowd.

If it's helps, two of my four wings with true naked's, as are all my other bikes.

Welcome! They don't come any cleaner than that.

Nice stable. Lots of MBS here.

We always enjoy it when folks put their location in their profile. You might be a neighbor!

Thanks all. I'm in greater Boston, MA, USA.
The bike is in good shape and the price was super right. One of those "don't bother negotiating, you got here first and I've got people coming after you" prices. Not free, but the cheapest wing I've bought so far.

Funny. I was more than eyeballing just that bike (online).

I went back and forth with the seller about two weeks ago trying to schedule a time to meet. I think I offered 3-4 different times/days, but delays in email exchange kept us from locking in a window. I offered a number, invited texting/calling, but email was all she'd exchange. And that made all the difference for a week.

Then I got a "show up at this time tomorrow and first person with $$$ buys it" email on Friday night. Knowing I'd need to spend a whole day getting there and back, I was not eager to be part of some potential circus of buyers and possibly have nothing to show for a rainy Saturday in the truck.

Good for you!

Hah, yup, I was "that guy". The title situation is a little weird, signed by one of the PO's but dated 2013, so I may end up using the VT reg process.

FWIW I was #2 in line for a super clean '78 CB550K last week, so I guess it was my turn.

In Maine, no titles for that vintage, so it wouldn't have affected me. Bill of sale is all Maine needs.

No biggie. (No cost fantasy of possibilities.)

I have 4 bikes in a small shed right now, with a father-son naked GoldWing project taking up most of the limited room and my Nighthawk's front end splayed out in the rest of the space. There's no real need for another bike to throw tools and $ at this week or month.

I hope that bike treats you well.

There's a FB listing for an '83 interstate with super low miles in Biddeford, but the seller has been non-responsive. You've probably seen it already.

Not on FB, so I haven't seen it. But thanks for pointing it out. Biddeford isn't that far from me.

Update - Now 100% roadworthy and mostly done. Final touches were rebuilding the leaky petcock and mounting some rear signals. Not GW signals, but Honda from same era, so close enough.STill could use a new fuel sender since the gas gauge doesn't work, but that's minor.

Excellent!

Interesting placement of rear signals.

Who needs a fuel gauge, really, when you have a petcock that gets you another 30 miles or so? My son's '83 Honda 550 doesn't have a fuel gauge. I have a fuel gauge and still run down to reserve pretty regularly.

I once almost bought a '56 Beetle with no fuel gauge and a petcock. The owner told me he had occasionally forgotten to flip the petcock after refueling and run it dry. I've restored a couple Type I VWs in my lifetime. Sometimes I wax nostalgic and wish I had dropped the $ and picked up that rare oval VW with a sunroof back around 1997.

Maybe a fuel gauge is something like today's TPS - something you think you need once you have it?
