New Member Here!

Post by Custom79 »

Hi All! I just joined the forum today. I bought a '79 Goldwing a couple weeks ago.

Here it is when I got it...

Image

I have been trying to upload more photos but photobucket isn't co-operating.

I have stripped off all the Vetter stuff now. Its in pretty good shape but is in need of a lot of simple maintenance.
Looking forward to chatting with everyone! I'll post more pics in a bit.

Thanks!

Yeah, I used to use photobucket back in the day, but the website has turned into a buggy, popup ad ridden mess. I use Imgur occasionally now, just because my phone takes photos that are so high of a resolution that they get pixelated when I directly upload them here.

Absolutely gorgeous bike, though. My favorite color of the 2d gen 1000s, for sure.
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- It Runs (Poorly) and Doesn't Leak (Mostly)
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Broke the Chain And Ate the Motor
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

When you go to post just click on "full editor & Preview" then click on "attachments" and load your pic from your PC like Robin says. Don't recall if you still need 5 posts before you can do this. Anyway welcome to the site. Your bike looks like it has been looked after.

Very nice! That rotary dial phone in the background of the first picture fits right in - looks like a time capsule from 1979. Do you have plans for the bike, or just getting her back on the road and riding it?

Nice! Looks pretty unmolested overall. They even left the mounting tabs for the stock front turn signals, which usually get cut off when mounting a Vetter...

Thanks again guys!

I will definitely go start a thread for the build! I do want to get it ridable again but my plans are for a mild cafe style while still retaining a large part of the stock look.

Look forward to chattin with you guys! Cheers

Look, a headlight bucket! Now to find a headlight. Welcome to the wingdom.
Goldwings don't accelerate, they gain inertia.

1978 GL1000 - almost stock - needs a head replaced, parts are ready to install!
1979 GL1000 - Winter project/parts bike - custom "Busted"
1983 GL1100 Standard- raised from the dead and back to organ donor status
And the newest acquisition, 1979 XS 650F to be a sidecar tug. crossy.gif

Welcome. I did the same thing only with a ‘78. Except I preferred the early chrome headlight bucket. They sure make nice rides. Oh, wait. People here already know that...

Welcome. Nice bike. The Wing I called about previous to the one I bought had the old saddlebags and fairing and I would have bought it except the guy lost the title to it. Instead of putting it in his name like he should have (in which case he could pay DMV for a duplicate for $4) he left it open and then lost it. Apparently he was not aware that it was lost when he advertised it for sale. (Duh!)
