Inspired by Site

Post by 2Manyprojects »

My eldest son turned me onto the site about two years ago. Started by viewing the rides and decided a naked
Goldwing was the way to go. Always been a fan of boxer (opposed) engines. (VW's, some old sleds, Subaru, etc)
So much cooler than conventional engines! Picked up an '83 and got it ride-able for last summer. Season is over
and I want to delete fairing with signals for windshield with separate headlight and signals. Greatly appreciate
any leads or info.

Shop talk is where you will find very good info.
Or ask a specific question on this forum and somebody that knows his stuff will answer.
Good luck and enjoy your bike.

Welcome from Wisconsin. Sounds like you've already gotten to know your bike. Removing the fairing etc. is pretty straight forward, as the majority of the wiring consists of sub-harnesses added to a standard main harness. As far as headlight/turn signal options and availability, it really depends on whether you're wanting to stay stock or not. One thing I do know is that '83's seem to have some unique parts, especially if it's an Aspencade. There are a couple of fairly recent threads in the restoration and project forum that might provide you with more info, as well.

Enjoy the ride!

Current Rides:
'Grumpy' - '81 Standard, now fully dressed.
'Layla' - '81 Standard w/dealer installed fairing and Hondaline bags.
'Scarlett' '76 'Survivor' nekkid as a j-bird!

Under Construction:
The 'Jalopy' '78-'79 Mash-up
'Quikie' '81 gl1100I back on the lift, project with the step-son!

In The Shed:
'81 gl1100I barn find aka "Josie, the farmer's daughter." (almost comatose build)
'77 gl1000, roller parts bike.
'82 gl1100I, 'Old Crusty' titled roller parts bike (free!)
'82 gl1100I, My first 'Wing, and an expensive lesson!

Hi there from another Manitoban. Is your 83 Gl1100 a standard, an interstate or an aspencade? Makes quite a difference on how to approach your project. Good luck and enjoy the site and wealth of info here.
