New to the Naked GW

#1

Post by Oldmopars »

So, I am new to the Naked Goldwings, but not Goldwings. I have a 96 GL1500SE, a 84 GL1200 Naked and I used to have a 82 GL1100.
My 84 GL1200 was an Aspencade, but I hated the look of it. Just my opinion, but the 1200 Aspencade is a really ugly bike. All the digital garbage and stupid headlight, its just bad.
So, I have been working on stripping it down and I am at the point that it runs enough for a test drive.
I was blown away. I had no idea a GL1200 could be that fast. Once you strip off all the unneeded junk, the bike is around 100lbs lighter and goes like stink. I think I am going to have a lot of fun with this bike.
My main plan it for more of an Adventure theme, skid plate, aggressive tires, etc. I have also swapped on a GL1500 front-end (forks, wheel, tire, brakes) and will be doing the rear soon. So, I am now running the GL1500 Speedo, but need to make a pod for it, it is just the speedo. I will also add the gas gauge and temp gauge in the pod.
Anyway, once I have decent pictures I will post them.

Welcome from Wisconsin! More and more 1200's are getting nekkid every day! Sounds like you're having fun. Start a build thread, and post lots of pics. More info on the front end swap would be cool, too! Enjoy the ride!

Great project! Please start a build thread so that we can follow along.

I'm interested to know more about the swap. I have an 1100 and know people have swapped 1200 fork into them. So does this mean you can swap 1500 forks into an 1100?

Sorry I missed this question. I would think that would not be an issue, the 1500 forks into the 1200 was straight forward and easy. So, I would have to know more about the 1200-1100 swap, but if it is straight forward, this would be too.
