My bike is neked!

Post by yodagruv »

Hey, NGW, just acquired a 1977 GL1000 in really good shape. I’m 90 miles in and while I’m still getting to know her we are gettin on well. I’ll be digging around in here for wisdom and historical info and doing my best to contribute.

“really good shape” sounds like an understatement. That is a beauty. Even has Lesters. Congratulations and welcome.

Welcome. Nice GL, and a good intro to 'wings (a '77 was my first). I see the bars have been changed on it. Perhaps just a wee bit too narrow for that heavy a bike, but my back would prefer them over stock. If you decide that you need more leverage, there are many similar available. I have a pair of "Euro" bars that look the same, but wider that I bought on Amazon. Once again welvome, and "change your belts!" Also, please update your profile so we can see where you are from which will help when you ask for assistance.

Thanks for the welcome, guys! This bike had a frame-off about 7 years and 3500 miles ago, engine was totally worked through. How often should those belts be done?

That is a beautiful bike for sure. Period-correct customizations and not overdone. You scored well.
