New GL owner from Alabama

#1

Post by Lon »

New to the forums and Goldwings. Saturday 4/6/19 I bought a 1978 GL1000. I plan to fix the mechanical bits, and use the bike will be used, not a show bike. As soon as the bike was home the Windjammer was gone, and isnt going back on. Look forward to sharing info and absorbing all the knowledge I can.

Yep, looks like a score! Lester mags, Jardine pipes, and it's a runner! As mentioned above, changing the belts is highly recommended... Enjoy the ride!

I’ve always believed it should be “go” then “show” when it comes to bikes. Why be the guy on the side of the road with a flashy hunk-of-junk?

Best of luck getting her tip-top, and welcome from SoDak!

Thanks for the welcomes! I'm totally on board with making it a runner first. My first bike and first bike resto was a 76 KZ400 and it left on the side of the road a lot. Not wanting to repeat that.

I know how that can go. My 81 CB900F left me stranded on the sidewalk a few times - since it would die on me in town I thought it would be better to shove it off the road.

Fortunately, ‘Wings are stupidly reliable, so you’ll probably get to the show part pretty quick.
