New member from Canada
Greetings gents!
I have owned a 1976 GL1000 for a little over a year. I have been riding for 54 of my 62 years, raced off road sports for much of my youth and finally settling down to more sedate street riding.
I also own a 1979 CX500 which I have cafe'd. This one was my Dad's bike from new, so that one will likely always be in my stable.
I picked up the wing primarily so my wife and I could ride along the shores of Lake Erie - some nice riding out that way. My bike runs well - I understand the smoke at start up is normal - but I do need to learn a lot more about upgrading my suspension. It seems to land like a sack of bricks over any road abnormality and it's apt to lose me my riding partner.
I look forward to any tips you might have - I've already added a fork brace and the shocks the bike came with are supposed to be Progressive's.
Cheers!
John

Hey John:
Hello from Barrie Ontario.
Progressives can fail like any other shock.
Maybe the springs are too light?

Welcome to the 'Wingdom.
Always a treat to see another Canuck.
Progressive 412s should handle the back and progressive springs in the front are almost too stiff.

Welcome from the west coast rock. Search this and the other forums. Lots of good information that will assist in getting your bike up to a good standard. Look for an OEM service manual. Cheers

Re: New member from Canada
Welcome to the club from the UK. I fitted Hagon shocks with no complaints, and if you contact Hagon direct, as I did, they will fit whatever spring is appropriate to your needs. The ones I got look similar to the original air shocks (I think).
Previous Rides,
1980 CB250N Good to learn on
1981 CX500 good mid range tourer, went to Austria on it!
1983 GL1100C Pride and joy, sold when I bought my 1st house, big mistake
1985 GL650 Silverwing another mistake, horrible bike
1986 CBX550 Good commuter
1989 Suzuki GS750 (1976) cheap and cheerful until a dog ran out in front of me on Xmas Eve, 1991
Current bikes
2010 CB1300 back on a bike after 19 years, two divorces, children grown up etc
1980 GL1100 NOW ON THE ROAD, still use CB1300.
