Given an 82 GL1100 project. So it begins...

This site is almost overwhelming.

Bike is a little rough but I intend to rip it completely apart anyway.

Have started a digital project file and spreadsheet to document and reference.

Figured I go through the motor first to see if it's salvageable. If not, abort. If so, turn the page.

This will be a lowered café bike which I hope to mono-shock.

Would love to find a similar build thread to follow if anyone can direct me. Otherwise, I'll start drilling down.

If my wife calls, I'm not here.

Welcome! Yeah, there's a lot of material to sort through, but that's the allure. The thing is, you only focus on one thing at a time. Done in sequence, it's not so overwhelming and pretty soon you'll have it sorted.

You won't find a lot of mono conversions here. It's definitely doable though. I'd start by getting precise measurements between the pivot holes in the frame and find a suitable donor mono swingarm. That'd save a bunch of work. You'll still be cutting and bending, but less.
