Re: First time Goldwing owner
Welcome and congrats!
You've got a beautiful example of a "survivor" LTD!
Did you by any chance get the tool kit and (rare as hen's teeth) key fob?
Both items were unique to the LTD.

I may be on another mount 'til then.JohnnyNumbers wrote: Desertrefugee, if you ever want to go riding with a bunch of accountants and engineers, you have a standing invitation.

Hi Al,
I pick up the bike the end of October. I believe my cousin bought the bike new, so with any luck it'll come with the tool kit and key fob. I plan on posting pictures of everything once I get back to AZ.

changing timing belts is not hard at all, check out chop talk on "how to" about that and a lot of other things as well.

Re: First time Goldwing owner
I've been going through the NEW2U thread. I plan on reading the timing belt thread multiple times but I still plan on having my mechanic do that work. I'll watch but I'll sleep easier knowing he's done the work. He's also going to clean and rebuild the carbs. Most everything else I think I can handle.rcmatt007 wrote:changing timing belts is not hard at all, check out chop talk on "how to" about that and a lot of other things as well.

carbs.... no there is an issue.... Unless the mechanic has a lot of experience with older Hondas.... once again, not really all tat hard, but we have also heard horror stories of people not knowing what they are doing and using knock-off and inferior rebuild kits. Someone who really knows GL carbs will cost you $450-500 (last I looked).... randakk MAKES THE BEST KITS opps I was yelling
I have rebuilt a couple, it just takes being OCD. Robin is a sponsor of our site and does great work... I had him rebuild the heads on my 78

Re: First time Goldwing owner
I am a new rider first time bike owner and although I've never worked on a bike I've been working on my own vehicles since I was 17.
following the great advice here I changed the timing belts on my 76, rebuilt the idler bearings and using Randakk's kit and dvd rebuilt the carbs.
the bike even started after all that.
if you like tinkering, give it a go.

...I can help. Mostly. As long as the garage is less than 100F.

Re: First time Goldwing owner
I'm already making a list of what I need from Randakk's and the carb kit is at the top of the list. I'll read through it and the thread on this site and see how I feel about it afterwards.
Desertrefugee, I'll take you up on your offer. By the time I get the bike back to AZ, the temps will be below 100 degrees!

Re: First time Goldwing owner
I just had a bike here that had been to 2 different shops before after they rebuilt/worked on the carbs. Owner was vey happy when he left my place.rcmatt007 wrote:carbs.... no there is an issue....
