Third bike's the charm...

#1

Post by jim_stop_trolling »

Hey all, I'm happy to finally have my account active on this forum. After owning a Honda and Yamaha from the 80s, it's great to get my hands on something I've always wanted; some sweet 70s metal.
After years of searching Craigslist for a beautiful, lovingly maintained GL1000, the time has come.

A few days ago I picked up Timma11's beautiful bike, a 76 GL1000 in Sulphur Yellow and I'm already well on the way towards getting her back on the road. Tim took the carbs off a few years back, I believe to fix a stuck float, and that's where I'm picking up from.
With all of the extra parts he included for me, I shouldn't need much more than a new battery, some o-rings, and some starter fluid but the next few weeks will tell.

There will be plenty of progress posts as time goes on, but here's a picture to start off. I had just rolled the bike out of my friend's truck into my other friend's front yard. The restoration will be done alongside a running (albeit cold starting) 72 CB750. His bike is brown so he's insisting on calling us "The Banana Boat Crew".

Welcome to the Club! Nice looking bike.tumb2

Interestingly, I bought an intact set of '76 LTD carburetors from Timma last year.

Did you get a 'bucket full' of carburetors, too? ;)

Welcome from southern Arizona - where there's no white stuff. I love the yellows.
