Re: First motorcycle: 75 gl1000
Thanks everyone!
Yes, my backflow licensing requires a recertification course every 2 years.
The trike is a blast to drive around campus. So far i broke the rear axle twice and bent the frame. But i use its failures as engineering lessons. Heck, a class of freshman engineers helped me build it. I do an unofficial "shop 101" class that starts with safety and "put way your dang tools", and ends with a welding project.
I figure there is a vin decoder somewhere that will show me the actual year, just havent stumbled upon it yet
The PO warned me that there will be people in the goldwing community that will try to talk me out of modding it. I take no offense, and enjoy a civil, friendly debate. I want to mod it with other honda parts, basically whatever catches my eye as "cool"
Yea, fishtails. They stay on.
So far my mod plans include:
-widest front and rear tire that will fit
-love the seat, but i want it recovered in a darker "saddle" tan. Maybe a little foam taken out (i'm only 5' 8")
-standard pegs. I dont like how the floorboards run under the cylinders. Yeah, and i'm short.
-sand off that backyard paintjob, and throw down some sparkly yellow and brown.
-whatever honda light combo i end up liking for the front.
-rear lights/plate mount will be my own design. My shop at work has a HAAS TM-1P cnc mill

As far as the year, there's a plate on the neck that tells the manufactured date and model year. Simple as pie...

Yeah, its a 77. With the faring off, i finally saw what was left of the tag under a bunch of wires (about a 1/3 of it is missing, but the vin and year is still there.) I kinda feel better now about changing stuff.

Its a bummer its not a 75, having a first year is kinda cool (my Bronco II project is a first year model, lots of 1 year specific things).
I've been reading Shop Talk. started at the beginning, working my way down. Good stuff and i like the organization.
I still want to put my holley 350 2 barrel on this thing. Got some manifold designs kicking around upstairs, and a machine shop at my disposal. But, KISS for now, i have plenty to do. And a friend with the stuff to sync carbs.
