New Member - 75' GL1000 Project

#1

Post by Daleo56 »

I just bought a 75' GL1000 and am in the process of restoring it back to stock. It does not need too much work and is only missing a few small parts.

The bike had a prototype carb from the prior owner but he included the original carbs when I bought it. I put the originals back on this weekend. It runs ok but I now get a LOT of gas coming out of the left side exhaust. I read here it is probably a stuck float so I guess I will be removing the carbs :-(

Thank you for letting me join in the fun!

Welcome from the UK. Nice looking bike, not sure of your experience with GL's, but do you plan to change the belts any time soon?
Enjoy the ride.

Nice! That's a beauty! You could send your carbs out. Or order a full kit. Sounds like lots of gas in the oil, fun, fun, fun.

Is there a specific place I can send them out that specializes in the carb rebuilds that owners here use? It looks like the kit is going to be $200 and it seems a little more complex than rebuilding a Carter :-) I put the single carb back on it this past weekend so I could ride it.
