Howdy, looks like I found the right place :)

Hey all. I've been looking for an early Wing for a while, as I prefer the naked look. Lucked onto what appears to possibly be an '84 Standard 1200, (although I probably won't know for sure until I pick it up at the end of the month and run the VIN), that sat for what must have been quite a few years. I'll be doing a ton of clean up, getting her in shape mechanically and lightly modifying the old girl. For mods I'm thinking a nice old school triple light bar, new lights throughout, some lower handlebars, new seat, bob at least the rear fender, new rubber and some paint.

If anyone has some links to sources for aftermarket cafe, bobber and chopper type bits, I'd appreciate the help.

I'd throw up a couple of pics, but I'm not sure how. Anyways, TIA I'm sure I'll be learning a lot from you all. :-D

Welcome from Wisconsin! Sounds like you've found your bike and have a good plan. Check out the New2U thread in ShopTalk for some good pointers on what to check. Randakk's website also has a good 'starting a motorcycle after a long layup' post that is very good reading. Enjoy the ride!

Welcome to the 'Wingdom.

A good '84 Standard is hard to find.

Ah ha! Attachments! Okay so, assuming you all can see the pics now, here's the mongrel. It was described as an '83 with a 1200 motor, so until I can run the VIN, your guesses will be better than mine.

I know it looks like poop, but I'm paying peanuts for it, so some elbow grease and new bits are to be expected. Feel free to let me know what you see, or don't see. I've been looking at that '84 you sold RAT, and there are some obvious differences here, (ie the fake tank, headlight, lack of front signal mounts and the seat for starters) but a restoration isn't what I had in mind anyways, just looking to put together a decent scoot. TIA :-D

Sure looks like an 84 (motor, wheels, shelter). Regardless, definitely the foundation for a "decent scoot". It'll get you anywhere (ANYWHERE) you want to go once sorted.

Thanks for the kind words all, and DesertRefugee, anywhere is definitely the idea. That headlight had me wondering if someone nakedized a dresser model and RAT's '84 was a tough standard for comparison.

Well it looks like tomorrow's the big day. Seller's dropping off the Wing in the morning along with a replacement frame for a CB project of mine. Very excited little bunny I am.
