My 85' GL1200 Project - AKA "Goldie"
Hello all,
Just wanted to say this site is awesome. very informative. I just recently finished a little project on a GL1200 Interstate. First bike build so there are somethings I possibly would change here and there. I guess there is always the NEXT bike! Here are some pics of the bike when i first got it in pieces.

Here she is once i assessed the situation and tried to piece her back together. I wanted to see what i was working with. I was surprised she cleaned up so nice.

Re: New member to the site.
I had an idea to make a rear cowl but it went south for me quick. All trial and error...well mostly error but I am still learning as I go.

Flush mounted turn signals in the side panels. I thought it looked cool and kept the body clean.

Re: New member to the site.
Well the tank shelter wasn't whole on the gl1200. I had to shape foam to fill the void in. I covered it with Duct tape and a releasing agent. Over all it was a cool experience.

Time for body work. Man the front of the tank was all wonky but it smoothed out over time.

Re: New member to the site.
As you can see the seat is now covered (not the way I intended but the guy that did it thought speed was more important than actually what i wanted and asked for.). This will be re done once again. First time on a milling machine. Had to get used to that whole manual operation. Once again though I had an absolute blast with this.

Re: New member to the site.
No! LOL I did not intend for it to look like a chevy bowtie. That will change eventually as well. I just want to enjoy the bike for now. It has been a long 7 months of weekend warrior'in it on this bike.

Oh yes. already done. I researched this bike thoroughly. Luckly I am a manager of a custom bike shop. So access to certain faculties helps a ton.RAT wrote:Welcome to the 'Wingdom.

Finally picked a color I normally wouldn't have picked but everything about this project is something I normally wouldn't do...
