New to the wing

#1

Post by 86 aspenwhat »

Im very new to the wing life. I recently was gifted a 86 aspencade that has been sitting for 20 years. I plan on going naked. Im looking for a decent writeup on ignition system. I have torn the bike down and connected any plugs available. Getting power in the dash and it turns over fine but i have no spark... not even power at the coils? Ive cleaned the contacts on the "pulse gen" but not sure if there is a write up on testing each part. Any info much apprecaited

I'm no guru, but I did have an '84 Aspy. It'll do exactly as you describe - light up the gauges and spin like crazy with no spark if your ECU connection is not secure. If you've torn things down, it'd be easy to bump connectors out of place. Verify everything - and it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to unplug everything and give all connections a shot of CRC contact cleaner.

Was thinking along the same lines but maybe the kill is not even connected yet since you have torn things down and hopefully reconnected everything.

if then still no spark, more likely the ignition module. there two pulse generators so you'd likely have spark on two
