Been here for a while, just starting to post.

Hello all! I have been soaking up info from here for the past three years. I think it's about time to introduce myself. I bought a '78 back in 2014 and was working off and on on it for a couple of years. There was a lot wrong with the bike and I was starting to wonder if I was ever going to be able to ride it. Then, last August, I saw a listing on eBay for another '78, starting bid $700. I bit $710 and ended up winning the auction! A friend helped me trailer the bike from its home in Illinois to my home in Indiana. The good news is that it is fully functional, although there are several issues that need to be addressed. The problem is that the winter was so mild, that I've ended up putting almost 8000 miles on it. So far, I've installed new stainless brake lines up front, new radiator, new clutch cable(s), and new coils. The tires will need to be replaced soon, and the carbs could reeeeeeeealy use a cleanup. The plan is to take the decent carbs from the previous bike, clean them up, and install them on the newer bike. The older bike also has an engine with a LOT fewer miles on it (12,000 vs 92,000), so there might be an engine swap in the future.

Welcome to the site from the UK, take it you also changed the timing belts.
The only thing I'd say about the mileage difference is that are you certain they are genuine figures. All parts can be changed over the years including instruments!

Previous Rides,
1980 CB250N Good to learn on
1981 CX500 good mid range tourer, went to Austria on it!
1983 GL1100C Pride and joy, sold when I bought my 1st house, big mistake
1985 GL650 Silverwing another mistake, horrible bike
1986 CBX550 Good commuter
1989 Suzuki GS750 (1976) cheap and cheerful until a dog ran out in front of me on Xmas Eve, 1991
Current bikes
2010 CB1300 back on a bike after 19 years, two divorces, children grown up etc
1980 GL1100 NOW ON THE ROAD, still use CB1300.

Welcome to the club. Unless the engine "needs" to be swapped, bad compression or other issue, I would just run with it. And fix the other bike at your leisure.

The belts were one of the first things I changed. I thought about the mileage, but the one with less definitely shows less wear, it just spent more time outside, but yeah, I don't really trust the numbers.

Welcome to the 'Wingdom.

Don't sweat the mileage, better that they have been in use than sitting around ....

Welcome from Wisconsin! As said previously, it's always nice to have a running bike while you work on the other. Or, recondition parts and pieces and swap them over as you can. From my experience, these old 'Wings come apart easy, but go back together really hard! lolol lolol lolol
