Hello from Denton, TX

#1

Post by Jeff73sc »

Hi, i recently bought 2 Goldwing Aspencade parts bikes that I plan on combining into one working bike. One is a 1981 Aspencade with a dented frame, but a working motor. The other is a 1980 Aspencade that was on the road till it threw a rod. Going to swap the motor from the 1981 bike into the 1980 bike and part out any remaining bits from the 81.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Sounds like you've got a plan! Engine swaps are pretty straight forward. I would recommend changing the timing belts and checking the water pump for wear before you do the install. There's plenty of great info in the ShopTalk page and the 'New2You' sticky at the top of this forum. Enjoy the ride!

Hey Jeff, welcome on board. There's a ton of info and more on here on everything there is about these old Wings and if you can think of it, someone's probably done it! I'm not too far away from you there in Denton and be only too happy to help out on anything for you if I can. I have a 1985 1200 that I've recently started looking into again after getting my 82 back up and running from some cylinder head work.

I like those pictures you posted, your bike?

cheers

Not sure what caused the three inch hole on top of the case. It looks a little like the crankshaft may have hit? Anyway, the old engine is out. Working on cleaning up all the oil that must have leaked out of the three inch hole onto every surface of the frame. Waiting for payday to buy new belts and a seals. Water pump seems to be in good condition on both engines, so one should hopefully work. Want to replace the air shocks with springs, but might use the OEM's till i can afford the ones I want. Hoping to have her back on the road soon.

Welcome to the club from the UK. All the help you'll need can be found here, just ask and someone will have the answer. +1 on changing the belts. As for your rear shocks I put Hagons on and no problems so far.
