New ngw owner
After years of owning a brand new Harley I realized I missed the "fun" of having a bike to tinker with. That led me to a 79gl1000 goldwing that was sitting in my fathers garage. After a lot of research and consideration it has led me to pursue turning it into a cafe racer. It has also led me to this site as many people suggested that there is a wealth of information here. I look forward to sharing my journey and meeting more people who enjoy these old bikes. Thanks

Thanks Sugs and Goboy. I've already started stripping parts off. If anyone is in the market for a windshield, seat, or backrest they are available. Not gonna have a need for them on this project.

Re: New ngw owner
Welcome.
You mentioned you have through the years ridden new HDs and this is the first bike you've gotten tinker with.
And here all this time I thought HDs are made for tinkering. I was under the impression they demanded it.
What do I know, I've never had a HD. Good luck on your build, tinkering is fun. Don't over think it too much like I do.
I've always had Paralysis by Analysis.

Re: New ngw owner
Thank you all for the encouragement. I will start a thread on the project. Timing belts will be one of the first jobs to do once it is stripped down. Thanks to all the info here on this site it seems to be a breeze.
As for the Harley's I only owned a new one so I can't speak to the old ones. Those are the ones I think had to have most tinkering. Before my Harley though I always had to buy projects and fix them up. I was a young kid without a lot of money so I saw them as a path to independence so to speak. I fixed up everything from cb750s to Kawasaki ninjas to cbrs and shadows. That's where my desire to tinker comes from. Riding is only half the fun.
