First project bike.Looking for help! I say thanks a lot "Canadian"

Hey Guys , This is my first project bike. 1983 Aspencade. It's already been mettled with a little so I am going to need some help !

My goal for the bike is to make it run right ( not sure how long since it's been runned and cared for ) , I also intend on some Bobber / Cafe racer / Bratt inspired mods ... I have a ton of question regarding the air suspension , carb rebuild and wiring.

Please look pass the mess in the garage , I am in the process of making myself a table to get the bike on.

Thanks in advance

Welcome from Wisconsin. Looks like you've got a good foundation to begin with! As suggested above, the ShopTalk page will get you started with several good threads to read through. There is also a link there to downloadable files for the wiring diagrams.

From the pics, I can see that the rear air shocks have been replaced with aftermarket, as well as the front brake master cylinder. FYI, the stock brake setup on the '83 is 'linked,' i.e. the front brake lever originally operated one front caliper, and the rear brake pedal operated the rear brake and the other front. You might want to check and see if that's been modified. The front forks are 'air assisted' which allows you to adjust the ride to your liking. IIRC, the Aspencade came with an on-board air compressor, which may or may not be still on the bike.

Thanks for the welcome , Gord I am in Quebec Ouest of Montreal.

Track T 2411 , Good eye ! The air pump is infact off the bike ... The front shocks are tied together with a rubber hose but I am wondering what I can do in order to delete that. Will have to read about it.

The Brake split thingy is still there , I noticed that yesterday. I was wondering how to deal with that also and make it conventional.

Let me know if you can point me in the right DIY thread to convert the brakes back to front is front and rear is rear setup.

An old post, but I didn’t see your question answered. I deleted the air ride on my 83 Aspy. You can use a metric screw with 8mm x 1.0 thread, and some thread sealant to cap all 5 holes.
