New member- Project GL1000 with Wessex Sidecar EXECUTIVE??

Post by SideCarReg »

Hi all, my bike finally arrived, so I thought I'd register.
I bought this bike on eBay here in Australia and had it trucked from Perth, WA to Melbourne, Victoria. I nearly went insane, what with delays and such, but its here now, so all good.

I've had a quick look and can already tell this is going to be an invaluable resource for me. My intentions are to overhaul this bike completely, including the sidecar, and use it to tour Australia. Should be challenging, as I'm not a mechanic's bootlace, but I'm confident enough to give a lot of it a go myself.

I'm hoping to establish is whether or nor my bike is a Gl1000 EXECUTIVE.

I'm pretty sure there are some owners of executives on this site, so I'm hoping someone reads this and is able to assist with advice or info, etc.

There are a few reasons I think it might be an executive. The fairing, for a start, also it'd a British bike originally imported to Oz. I won't go into all the details, but here's hoping.

Thanks for having ne in the forum. Cheers, guys.

Welcome to the club.

You can also post pics this way.... I find it to be easier...

1 Have a pic or two of your bike on your computer in your "pictures".
2 In a "New Topic" or to post in an existing thread at bottom click "Postreply".
3 Add whatever text you want, then to add a photo go to the bottom of your reply and in the line that states: "Filename" click on "Choose File" and choose your "Pictures" and select the image you want, hit "Open"...
4 In the "File Comment" box, click on "Add the File"
5 When it adds the file, an "Attachments" line will appear with the name of the image you selected in the line in front of "Place inline" button.

6 Place your flashing cursor, in your text box, where you want the image to be. Below, above, or in the text, and click the "Place inline" button.

7 New code will pop up in line and it should be the attachment you selected.
8 Hit "Preview" to see if it worked
9 If all is the way you want it, hit "Submit".
10 That's it.

The Executive was produced for Honda in 1976 by the Rickman Brothers in England. I believe there was only around 50 of them produced. All were black with gold pin-stripes, with Rickman's own fairing, Lester alloy wheels, brown saddle, their own rear rack and an analogue clock.

Just found this thread from a while back:

Cheers gents. I tried uploading photos, now I see why it didnt work. :)
I'd say it's the same one, olchris. It's blue, (which obviously works against it being an executive, but from what I gather, there weren't many Rickman Type 5 fairings made other than the ones on the executives, but I could be misinformed). Just out of curiosity, olchris, do you remember how much he was asking on gumtree? Thanks again for the welcome folks. :)
