Proud New Owner

Post by SSgtC »

I recently inherited a 1982 GL500 Interstate from my FIL. She comes with plenty of scars but runs smooth and should make a nice daily driver. I plan to strip her down to the essentials and make a few slight modifications to give a modern vibe. Pretty sure I'm going to have a pile of questions in the coming weeks as this is my first project. Thanks in advance. ;)

Misread your initial posts, ignore what I said about timing belts.

Thanks for the welcome, I was wondering, were would the best place for me to post questions on my build, the 500 sub-forum or the technical forums?

Welcome neighbor!

I suggest riding it as is for a considerable period THEN decide if you really want to strip it down.
Windshields, fairings and storage have their benefits, depending on your usage.

I wouldn't be without them, but I got spoiled., then developed MBS (good luck with THAT).

Welcome, Nice looking ride. I have the same bike and it is a great ride but mine is not as nice to look at. Adjusting the valves and especially the timing chain is a good place to go. Easy but necessary adjustments. Also some often develop creaking and popping of the rear suspension links/pivots. Likely only need to disassemble and lube. Down load the service manual from The CX500 site and check in with them too. Good group of folks there too
