Hi there
Long time lurker finally registered as I have decided to buy a wing. Looking at a 77 with the usual windjammer and ugly bags. I like the idea of a fully naked wing maybe even a Cafe, but i'm really thinking of going more in the direction of a sport tourer. Any way love the site and hope i'll contribute even a little bit versus what I've already learned.

Welcome from the UK and glad you've stopped lurking in the background. Sure you know that you only have to ask for help and someone will answer.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I started a build thread on my new baby, but thought I'd put a bit more about me here.
Like most,I rode a ton of different bikes as a kid. Minis, dirt bikes, a few old small diplacemt streetbikes. Here in BC our insurance is based on displacement, so I always stayed under 400cc as a kid. Just couldn't afford anything more than that. One day I found a broken Yamaha RZ350 in a neighbors garage when he was having a garage sale. I fell in love, and finally convinced him to sell it to me. Rode/rebuilt that thing for a few years, then life got in the way and I sold her off. Flash forward many years. I'm working at a crap job that pays really well and need something for the soul, so I buy a 1983 Gr650 from a guy to see if getting back to riding will help. Yes, yes it helps. Rode her for a season, dumped it once when a cager turned left in front of me, but didn't stop me. Well I'd been a sport bike guy so I bought a Zx14 from a guy who had scared himself stupid on it (not hard on a bike with 200hp). Loved it of course, but a long conversation with an angry Constable, who wanted to impound my bike and take away my license, convinced me to go another way. next was a Suzuki Bandit 1250. Wow what a great bike, perfect all rounder with great performance. My employer "merged" with another company at this point and many of my duties were taken away, along with a lot of the money. I was still doing OK, but the payments on the bike had to go. Sold it and with what I had for savings bought a ZRX1100. Fantastic bike as well, but honestly not as good as the Bandit. Should have held out for a 1200 as there is better aftermarket support, but hey I had a bike still so I was good. Well the new corporate owners and I were not a good mix so we parted ways, other things had happened as well and I was not in good shape financially, so I took a job that was great for the soul, but bad for the money.just over a year ago I sold the Rex for less than she was worth to pay some bills. That was it I needed a better job. Have one now that pays well and doesn't suck the soul out. I am busily paying off bills and getting my financial house in order. Went to try and buy a new bike, but the bank says no. What to do? Well I had been lurking around this site for a while, and finally thought "I want one", and started shopping. Found her in Chilliwack guy wanted $1250.00 I paid $950.00. I think I did OK, but we'll see. Hope I'll be able to make it to some runs and stuff, and really hope I can get her together soon.

Greetings from the Mid-West, I was a lurker for a long time and joined last year - the advice from the gurus and tutorials found here have enabled me to perform ANY maintenance/repair project that has come up to date on my 77 GL.

Good luck with your build, enjoy yourself - take (and post) lots of pics!
