Hello ladies and gentleman. Just purchased a 80 gl1100 with a snapped alternator shaft for very cheap and had it in pieces in no time. I haven't been on a bike in many years and was never a wrencher when I did. After throwing away way too much money on playing with European tuner cars I decided to jump right in to this bike and am anticipating loving the simplicity. I have read the internet twice on this bike but am bound to have more questions soon. Just got the motor soda blasted and am ready to go to work.. Hope to talk with many of you!

Welcome from California and to the NGW. Looks like you're diving right in. Read Randakk (especially this part) and ShopTalk.

No, but you can go "Ugh".

I'm in a quandary as to whether or not to say hello and whether or not to remind you to change the belts.

thanks for the welcome. Ultimately, I'm going for the cafe wing... but for now, I just want to get it running right. Got the big powdery mess back from the soda blaster, I figured I'd tear down the thing and fix it before I make it pretty again.
