long time surfer, first time poster

Post by WingedHawk »

Hello from central Iowa. I've been visiting this site for several months now. What an absolute Gold mine of information! I brought home a '76 GL last summer. Only rode it a couple hundred miles before winter though. I was fouling plugs and backfiring, so I started ajusting the carbs, thinking I was running way rich. but didn't make much headway before winter. Now I am wondering if it's poor spark.
So Spring is here and I have taken the advice of many of your members and tackled the timing belts. Glad I did I'm thinking they were originals! they are stamped Honda! I am almost ready to put it all back together, but am having trouble getting all the marks lined up on the the right side. The top of the belt seems too loose.

Welcome aboard, glad you are getting her back together. The right side (as you sit on the bike) requires you to somehow clamp the pulley where it needs to go, then all will go well. The valve spring wants to push the cam out of line.
