New to forum, but repeat Wing owner

Post by 83 Sidecar Wing »

Hello, I am glad to find your site. I hope you don't mind, but my 83 Wing isn't a naked model, but I believe I can learn what I need on this forum. I live in central Mississippi and just bought a 1983 Goldwing with 49,000 miles and a Hitchhiker sidecar for $2000.00 in Missouri. The owner had two Harleys and used the Wing in parades and won first place whenever he entered. The bike is far from perfect, but the guy and his grandson wore helmets with horns and was known as the Buffalo Man. Poor guy wrecked on one of his Harleys and broke his collar bone, seven ribs and messed up four vertebrae. He is mending now and had two of the vertebrae operated on, oh he is 73. The bike sat outside in the weather and the brakes master cylinders are seized up, front and rear. I got it home, hooked up a mower battery to it and after a bit of choking, it fired up. I think it needs new air shocks, an oil change and some TLC. I plan on replacing the timing belts and the seat soon and go from there. I have owned a 1978 wing back in the early '90s and it served me well. I know we will have fun with this bike and the sidecar and look forward to many miles and smiles. The rig also has a Unit leading link front end on it too.

Welcome to the site! No problem that your wing isn't naked, we have plenty of "modest" members around here.

Welcome from Wisconsin. I'm jealous, I've been contemplating adding a side car to my 1100 for a while. As said above, we like pics, and start a project thread! Enjoy the ride!

Welcome! I recently acquired and quickly sold a sidecar rig after deciding it really wasn't for me.

Thanks for the replies, I've separated the sidecar and gave everything a good clean-up. Pulled the rear master cylinder and caliper, got the rear brake lever un-stuck and greased up again. Also made a windshield for the sidecar and reattached the trunk lid and replaced the lock that had no key. I'm not to good with photo posting, got to read how you do it here and give it a try. Will be re-attaching sidecar when brakes are finished. I'll be back later.
