Bike lift

#1

Post by Francis »

Happy cyber Monday!
There's a fellow I used to work with that's selling a Kendon stand-up bike lift for 200 beans. I was looking at it earlier this AM and I just don't know!? Them things are really narrow top and bottom. How stable would that thing be?
I'd sure would hate getting a tip over ! Geez.... for 200, I'm really tempted. Maybe welding some pipe on the existing leg?? to make them longer but, real-estate is at a premium in that super shed. Kinda defeat's the purpose of having an easily foldable bike lift that doesn't take much room.
I got an old sears bike jack thing but, a table kind would be a lot nicer.

Any opinions on them, anyone?

That's a steal of a deal. If it's the 1000 lb. lift I wouldn't pass it up. Just be careful when the bike is raised. Its better construction than the Princess Auto lift I use.

There's got to be an easy way to fab up some square tube folding supports to extend the base. Without seeing how it goes together exactly, it could be as easy as two holes, a nut/bolt, and a locking pin. Legs out with a bike on it, fold them in when it's empty.

I've had my 1100 up on my princess auto lift and it is surprisingly stable. You'd have to work at it to knock it over.
I've thought about some type of "out rigger". My plan was some square tubing welded along the front of the base with 2 pieces a foot or so long that I could slide into the piece welded to the frame when I have a bike on it. take them out when it's empty..

@ 5speed and Lucien, good ideas! I'll take some pics tomorrow when I pick it up. It will give a better idea on how it's actually built....Thanks ! I'll feel better about using it with the scoot on it with wider feet for stability.
The bike lasted 46 years without any major dings on it soooo it would be hair pulling moment if I tipped it over while working on it. I think maybe I'd shoot myself if I did . LOL

good deal.
My roadstar is currently on the lift and I've had it up far enough to put the locking bar in the highest hole and it was stable enough for me to strip the exhaust, bars, etc off.

As you can see its only 24 inches wide(legs) and there's a piece missing...the loading ramp and the manual pump handle
still a great deal tho! I also noticed there's locking snap rings at the end of each leg, sooo maybe I will be able to slide a pipe in and lock it with a removable pin :-D and I'll have to add a back piece.
All in all very happy for the great deal action1 we've known each other for 40 years( military days), I guess that counts for something !

You bet, I'm quite happy with the purchase!! Oh, by the way I spoke with my bud about the back ramp and the answer was....oops, I didn't give you them things? sorry , here you go action1 action1

Now I just need to fix my compressor! seems like I fried the starting capacitor! (lesson: don't try and start the compressor at -20 degrees) Cannot find one small enough to fit in there, so I guess I'm gotta have to bite the bullet and pay the Makita price :-?
