My latest project

#1

Post by robin1731 »

This one is mine, for awhile anyway. 1976 KZ900. It is getting lot's of new parts. Some reuse of original parts. A good bit of powder coating and paint too.

Just a few teaser pics. Picked up the wheels with new tires today. The wheels were powder coated. Had to wait over a week for the front tire. Fork lowers I vapor blasted then had the powder coaters put ceramic clear on them. This is the progress so far. Engine has been done for about 6 weeks or so.

Anyone recognize that rear wheel?

A frame without a big removeable section? That will never work!

LOL, yeah, it's a little harder to get the engine in like this. And for some reason it is harder than it used to be. ;) I've been doing these by myself since 1980. Still do. anim-cheers1

I blame old age. The engines get heavier as they get older, just like their owners. At one time I could lift a Wing engine onto the bench on my own; now I not supposed to lift anything much heavier than a 2lb hammer. Which makes working on these things somewwhat problematic, but sometimes ya gotta do wot ya gotta do!

If this is the one I think it is, it's going to look SHARP when it's done.
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- It Runs (Poorly) and Doesn't Leak (Mostly)
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Broke the Chain And Ate the Motor
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

Got some more done today.

The cam cover on there is not going to stay. It is just for paint. I have a set of covers I use just to put on when I paint an engine. I leave the cam cover to protect the cams when installing the engine in the frame.

Haven't really decided wheat the engine covers will look like yet. Not chrome I can tell you that. ;)

Stock that was chrome plated. It was on the bike when I got it. It looks better in the pic than it is. Has battery acid stains and some "scars". But once it's all together a lot of that is hidden. ;)

In the back two corners? Inside those "bushings" are adjustable legs/feet. I don't really know why. All they do is vibrate/rotate out once in awhile and when the table comes down that corner will be a little higher than the frame. No big deal. Also, there are two "arms" that came with the lift that have u-shaped brackets on the top. About three feet high. You can tie the bike "up" with those. Supposedly. I tried it once just to see. It pulled the arms in toward the bike. Those two pieces no longer exist. ;)

I did get some more done today. No pics though. Got the carbs rebuilt. They are of course vapor blasted. I also bead blasted the engine covers. Those will get vapor blasted tomorrow.

I had to take some time off of this today to go through a set of carbs for a customer. A set of 33mm Mikunis. I do still have bills to pay. lolol shakehands
