did I just make an oopsie..oil related

did some work on a friends 2007 shadow...including changing the oil.
She asked me what to get and I checked my supply, saw shell rotella T5 under the bench and that is what we used..
then I found a jug of T4 in a corner..
will the T5 semi syn play nice with the clutch?
We started the bike to fill the oil filter but haven't put it in gear..

Bout 90% you should be fine. I do not believe it carries the proper certifications but I do not think it will be an issue for the clutch.

Don't worry. Although I may not have all the information right now, As long as you read the letters JASO and MA/MA2 on its container that oil meets all the criteria for use in a wet clutch motorcycle engine.

EDIT: hmm, just found T5 doesn't have any gasoline engine API rating info. ( category S -Spark Ignition ) Nor JASO MA/MA2.
Only has diesel engine API rating info. ( category C- Compression Ignition )

This is a must read article, not published by SHELL but a wealth of information

FWIW, I used T5 5W20 in my CX the last few years I was working because it had to start reliably after sitting outside all day in the coldest part of winter. The main clutch had no problems with it but most importantly to me the starter clutch liked it a lot better than what I had been using before that.

For a GoldWing used in warm condition there should be no problem other than the price.

Unscientific, but I tried T6 in my 1200 and it shifted noisier and really clicked putting it in first. I went back to T4.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Mine didn't like T4 but it is happy with the Castrol I currently use.

T6 5w40 for over 120k miles in the 1800. Use it now in the Spyder. T4 in the 1000, but there is a jug of T5 (on sale) waiting for the next change. Wish they made a 20W50 as I would use it in the T150 rescue. But, that has a dry clutch, so a gas-saving blend should be Ok. Might still run T4 15W40 in it.

Funny how different bikes will respond to the same oil. I normally ran 15w40 T4 in my 77 cb750 but on my last oil change, nobody in town had T4 in stock so I opted for 15w40 T6 which I already knew was JASO certified. The trans shifted just fine with the T4 but seems even better with the T6, I'm even able to get it to find neutral more often. I think I'll give the T6 a try in my 1100
