A moped... yeah, I know

Post by dontwantapickle »

I need another project like I need a hole in the head, BUT.....
I found this on craigslist yesterday for 100 bucks. so I bought it.

The guy said it hasn't ran since the late 80's.
I brought it home and after a quick lookover, It has spark !
I then found that the petcock was plugged and not able to flow fuel.
I just blew thru it and blew out the clog.
Added some pre-mix and what do you know, it fired right up.

Some air in the tires and my woman and I have been riding it around the neighborhood.
We put probably around 4 miles on it and it runs really well.
Turn signals need some attention and a 6v battery, that's it.

I'm sure that some city dwelling hipster would love to have it,
but my wife likes it, so it's gonna stay around here until she gets tired of it.

Hey that's a super looking little bike and the wife likes it. Then what's not to like? :-D
Beauty of the small stuff is lightweight vs a 250 lb lump of a motor and way less parts. :crosso Although it sounds like it is pretty healthy already.... it runs.

A version of your bike (different brand) in nice shape just came up on Hemmings for sale with a 13 day time window and no reserve. So let’s see what it sells for down the road. :-D

Amazing what some of this older stuff has been fetching these days.

Hey, nothing wrong with mopeds. Sometimes smaller and simpler is a good thing.

(Still can't believe my Solex is THAT slow though...)
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- It Runs (Poorly) and Doesn't Leak (Mostly)
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Broke the Chain And Ate the Motor
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

I bought an old Trail 90 for the day I can't get my hind leg high enough to get on my current bikes. Plenty exciting after I swapped a Chinese 190 engine into it...

The latest...

It is surprising how easy it starts and how well it runs.
The addition of shocks, telescopic forks, and a variator are what makes it a "deluxe" model.
Turn signals and a battery make it a "super deluxe".
It goes, maybe 20-25 mph.
It's pretty twitchy when riding WFO, therefore, it can be very exciting to ride.
It gets 120 miles per gallon.
Everyone says I gotta find a basket to put on the front.

In the last week, IDK how many times I have heard the old joke:
" Riding a moped is like dating a fat chick - It's a whole lot of fun until your friends catch you doing it".

Having something smaller around seems to be quite popular. It just didn't work for me. It was free and only needed minimal work to get it going after sitting for a couple of years. Got it going and promptly gave it to one of my sons. He takes it to the boat races for a pit bike.
