Well..... I call it jewelry because it is shiny and costs the same as expensive jewelry.
It has been a journey that started 15+ years ago with my first bike after a 30 year hiatus from riding. Now its a disease lolol
I am fully retired and this has kept me sane, if not a little lighter in the wallet over these years. I like the challenge of different models, yet stick with Honda as a brand, because of my early riding history in the 60's. crossy.gif

I think unless I sell a few, I am at my space limit in the garage and house. Until the next one comes along. :-D
Current Bikes:

1966 CL77 - Honda 305cc - Dual purpose - "Gentleman's Scrambler" was a period moniker.

1972 CB350F - Baby Four with low mileage - Cosmetic refresh to the next level 2021/2022.
1978 CB550K - Very original bike with only 7499 Km. from new - light cleanup and refresh done.
1983 CB1100F - Canadian model - DOHC Supersport in pristine low kilometre condition from new.
1984 GL1200 - Standard model in showroom condition - two owner bike from new.
1984 CX650E - Restored summer 2017 - a rare Eurosport model - excellent one owner bike.

Like it when I see a fellow from around my young stomping grounds of Alcona Beach. Sister lives in Barrie.

I'm into fuel injection myself, fully retired, and would like to get a 1983 CX650 Turbo as a project. Like yourself, my half of the garage is pretty full - could always rent a storage locker.

Like the list of your projects. You remind of Steve Drane when he had his HD dealership here in Victoria. Had a great collection of bikes.

Keep up with the projects, you do great work.

Know that area well, as I moved here about 5 years ago from the GTA and haven't looked back. Great riding terrain around this area and a good bunch of local CVMG members who actively ride and get together.

Yes the CX650T was on my radar at one time. Like everything else it has gotten very expensive now to find one in any condition. I believe they only produced about 1150 units world wide, so a unicorn of a bike. A member up north called "Turbo Jeff" has one along with a variety of Suzuki and Kawai turbo bikes from that era.

The quality of the work is a reflection of how many hours I have spent doing this and 10,000 wouldn't be out of line. So I guess I am a journeyman now. I have over the years taught myself to buff covers, paint frames and tanks etc. and do some light machine work.

I have never ventured into the area that many on the forum do with the customization of the bikes. So I am in awe of the members who venture down that path, with great skill level and imagination in spades.

If you venture down there and are on the 25th Side Road, just south of the 9th line and stop for gas at the Petro-Can, my father's old gas station that I worked at and learned a lot of my mechanical skills. Lived right across the road.

Know the amount of time that one can spend. Had a '95 Pearl Glacier White 1500 that I repainted in its entirety, panels and the blue accent plastic. There are a lot of pieces on this bike when taken apart. It was also an excuse to learn how to use spray guns.

I progressed to my long term retirement project, '85 GL1200 Limited Edition. Engine rebuild, did not like the blue smoke on starts, and a complete repaint, gold and brown metalflake including painting all the brown accent plastic.

Lot of plastic repair, pieces and cracks. If theses are not tended to, will show up in the final product.

The hardest part of the painting was the pinstripe and two tone panels. Took a week to decide how to do this.

Painting the Pearl Glacier White was tricky as it is a three part paint system - base colour, pearl, clearcoat, whereas the metalflake is a two part paint system - colour, clearcoat.

Used our two car garage as the paint booth, the Mrs was very understanding.

Will be in Barrie for my sister's 70th this July, maybe a coffee and you can show off the bike.

Cheers

Will do. It's our cross Canada trip we had planned for 2020. Will be on the Spyder with trailer.

Looked at the chrome you had done, puts mine to shame. Not a lot of choice out here, but thinking I'll look into having the rear chrome pieces on my '85 done - maybe. First, need to find a place.

When I rebuilt the engine, and did a lot of painting of parts and such, looked into a protectant specifically the engine because I had the engine parts vapour blasted. Found a CERAKOTE product MC5100 - no affiliation, that would coat and protect all types of aluminum finishes, and painted surfaces as well. Brush/spray on and air dry. ACF50 was recommended, but this is an oil film and with most of the engine surrounded by plastic, did not want a lot of dirt/crud to collect in out of the way places. One coat and done. Dirt/grime/crud wipes off with a damp rag.

The Canadian distributor is Caswell Canada: https://www.caswellcanada.ca/Cerakote-Canada/

So the project has been idle for a few months as I get the last of the chrome pieces back and my gauges are ready in Holland to be returned.
I ran into a issue when the PO had applied new gas tank graphics and not clear coated them afterwards. I believe the restoration was done 8-10 years ago and the white stripes had some visible yellowing from age and no protective clear coat finish. I removed the old graphic stripes on the gas tank, yet damaged the paint slightly in the process. I figured no problem, I will get a paint match from my body shop supply store.

No cigar after two attempts to match the paint and both being off quite a bit I decided to repaint the bodywork in my own custom colour. I used a Ford emerald green metallic that I had in stock and some of the non matching new paint in a 80%-20% mixture, then shot the new colour. I recently applied new graphics and just coated them with a few coats of clear for a protective finish.

New paint colour on tank and side covers. I still need to remove the front forks to repaint the headlight ears and lower fork shrouds. :-D
