The problems with direct drive steam engines on motorcycles are that 1) there is no neutral so when the engine runs the wheel turns and 2) the top speed is determined by the size of the wheel (this is why steam engines intended for pulling fast trains have very tall driving wheels while switchers have much smaller wheels.

I think a steam turbine driving through a transmission would be more practical in a vehicle.
