put a wrench on the 78 today

I know the 2 previous owners of my 78. the first one was a bit of a wild man..under water welder by trade, lived in an old house boat miles back in the woods at a lake..one of those don't give a rat's butt about anything guys and his bike showed it.
I took the wheels off it today in preparation to send the rims to Craig Rodsmith.
Here is one of his "that will work" modifications..

yep..under all the gunk is...a wooden plug..
He was riding it with one of the front bolts that hold the caliper on missing as well.
I fully expect to find more .......
This is how it looks now and will be for the foreseeable future as I want to finish the 76 first.

I wouldn't have bought it except..the last owner was a very good friend of mine. He bought it to put back on the road, tore some parts including the carbs off, then bought a sportster and the wing got shoved in to a mutual friends shed where it sat for years.
Ronny ( my friend) passed away 6 years ago and left the wing to our mutual friend. I paid him $350 for it. I'm going to finish it and put it back on the road in his memory. He might not like that I'm going to cafe it because he was an old school, leave it stock kinda guy.
I figure the fun of building it and riding it will be worth the risk of him haunting me..
ETA..I have another final drive in case this one is pooched and I got saddle bags with it that I'm putting on the 76.
The bike ran good when Ronny bought it but he wanted to go over everything and fix any issues.

I'm liking the custom rear fender 5spd. Just yanking your chain. Looks like a full winter ahead of you. Have fun.

 to much do you think?
I need to finish the workshop before I get to carried away. Still have to put plywood down on the floor, wire it and hopefully insulation..stuff I can pick away at on not so gold days.
