I've seen someone who built small wood side ramps that sit beside the table to assist getting the bike on the table...

That would work. With the table completely lowered the side ramps wouldn't have to be very high plus they could be used as side extensions.

I am thinking about buying the HF High-Lift. I think it is the Central Hydraulics. It will work well in the smaller space I have to use it in. Thinking of a screw jack stand and bar under the outside legs to add support and maybe replace the bolts with Caterpillar bolts rated at higher than grade 8. Don't trust possible Chinese substandard bolts.
